What We Need

Who has not got strong feeling of affection towards parents, spouses, siblings and children among others? Last August, my wife and I went to England with our younger daughter and left her behind at a Brighton school. In February this year, we went to Sydney with our younger son and left him behind at a University.

While my younger daughter used to distance herself from me, I feel that we are closer now through correspondence. When our younger son left for Sydney, my elder son would insist on seeing him off at the Airport in the very early morning. Later in Sydney, our cool younger son would ask for a hug when we parted, turning my wife's eyes red.

Yesterday at a gathering, my wife and I watched a young man walking hand in hand with a lady who was his mother - to the great envy of us and the father. Today in a court hearing, I heard about a case of occasioning actual bodily harm just because the victim widow and the accused son did not know how to express their deep love between each other. Love is really all around.

When we wish people happiness, I think we actually want them to love not just what they do or the way they live their lives, but to love somebody and be loved. Even if we do not want our feeling to get the best of us, the types of love - from familial to friendly to romantic - have lives of their own and are in our hearts. I am convinced that what we need is love!
