FADE IN:
INT. COURT - MORNING
Sitting in the gallery, PETER looks anxious. A CLERK sitting at the clerk table asks Peter.
CLERK
Are you the accused? Or a member
of the public?
PETER
Just a member of the public.
A MAN in a dark suit carrying a file enters from the entrance door, sees only Peter in the gallery and remarks loudly.
MAN
Surprised that someone is interested
in my case!
FLASHBACK (Earlier in the day)
INT. BATHROOM - EARLY MORNING
Smart phone in hand, PETER checks a web page.
PETER
(Voice Over)
Is that she? On the bench now?
END OF FLASHBACK
The Court room clock registers 9:30 am. We hear a loud knock and "Court", then a LADY in black gown appears from a door near the bench. All bow to the Court.
PETER
(Voice Over)
She looks good on the bench too!
The hearing begins, the accused is absent and the prosecution asks for an ex parte hearing. A witness called, documents exhibited and the case ruled.
FLASHBACK (March 2018)
INT. INTERVIEW ROOM to COURT - DAY
Files on the table, the Lady and Peter interview people. As the Lady remarks, Peter nods. Later, they go inside a court room and Peter watches her submission to the bench.
INT. RESTAURANT - DAY
Peter and the Lady are having soup noodles.
PETER
Thank you for the knowledge
transfer. I'm used to act for the
prosecution but not for the accused.
LADY
It's relatively easy. You only need
to raise a reasonable doubt. If
clients got convicted, they know
they deserve it.
PETER
Are you going back to your
chambers after lunch?
LADY
No, I've to rush back to my
studio...
PETER
Your studio?
LADY
Yes, I'm interested in drama.
I produce plays and play a
leading role.
END OF FLASHBACK
The Court room clock registers 9.45 am. The robed Lady delivers her verdict.
PETER
(Voice Over)
She's now a producer of documentaries
and is still the star of the show!
We hear "Court". All rise and bow. Peter looks content as he leaves.
FADE OUT.
