FADE IN:
INT. RESTAURANT - DAY
Cosy. Spanish style. PETER, Peter's WIFE, LADY#1 (50) and GENTLEMAN#1 (57) chat.
LADY#1
(To Peter)
It seems that every time we come
back, we ask you to buy us a lunch.
PETER (V.O.)
It's a good virtue to visit the seniors...
FLASHBACK
EXT. VILLAGE - DAY (1970s)
Terrace houses with narrow alleys. Peter enters inside one of the premises. GENTLEMAN#2 (50s) welcomes him.
GENTLEMAN#2
(Smiling widely)
Fai! How nice to see you visiting
us again!
INT. TENEMENT - DAY (1970s)
Peter bids farewell to GENTLEMEN#3 (30s) and LADY#2 (30s). LADY#2 walks him to the door.
LADY#2
Thank you for visiting us, Peter.
END FLASHBACK
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
I used to do that a lot to those
who have been kind to me.
A pause.
PETER (V.O.)
Now, I've become a senior. I
feel your respect and loyalty...
LADY#1 (Cont'd)
We'll pay next time...
PETER
See how it goes.
The lady passes to Peter a bag of gifts. Peter accepts willingly.
PETER (V.O.)
What's important is that we
feel good.
INT. LAW LIBRARY - DAY
Solemn. Stacks of books and periodicals. Peter grabs two thick books.
PETER (V.O.)
I've already done a lot of
preparation for the case.
It's tempting to think that's
good enough. But I'm
committed and strive to be
better than the day before!
He flips through the pages.
A beat.
He looks satisfied.
INT. CHAMBERS - NIGHT
As Peter enters an open area, we see and hear GENTLEMAN#3 (30s) and GENTLEMAN#4 (30s) chatting. GENTLEMAN#5 (60s) passes by.
GENTLEMAN#5
There's an expert in the midst
of you...
Getting the idea, Gentleman#3 immediately approaches Peter with a big box file in hand. Peter listens patiently.
GENTLEMAN#3
...that's my line of argument...
A beat.
PETER
... I think you're on the right
track...
GENTLEMAN#3 gestures he is grateful to Peter's help.
INT. STUDY - NIGHT
Peter puts some swimming gear inside a baggage. He then returns to his desk and works on the computer.
PETER (V.O.)
Yes, my wife and I are flying
out this Sunday to visit my KL
friend, and particularly his
recently widowed father...
A phone notification. Peter checks and we see the screen image of a calendar and a message: "Mr Cheung: Just arrived. Do you want one?"
PETER (V.O.)
She sent this message to me
at 20.06... still thinking about
her client...
Peter keys the message: "No. Thank You."
PETER (V.O.)
Appreciated. It's really the
thought that counts!
A beat.
Peter clicks the screen icon "Publish Post".
PETER (V.O.)
By publishing, I feel emotionally
connected to people who follow my posts, whether now, or a
thousand years later. FADE OUT. The End
