INT. SITTING ROOM - DAY
KAJI (2), watches as a GANG MEMBER#1 (an old man) packs.
KAJI (V.O.)
He's travelling somewhere.
Kaji watches Gang member#1 leaving.
KAJI (V.O.)
Food aside, I like to go out.
INT. SLEEPING ROOM - SITTING ROOM - DAY
The PACK LEADER wakes up, looking for something. Noting that, Kaji jumps up to the bed, smiling at her.
PACK LEADER
(Tipping Kaji's nose)
...Guy Guy...
Excited. Kaji looks abruptly at the corridor leading to the door.
KAJI (V.O.)
I know what that means. We're
going out! I love that!
Together, the pack leader and Kaji walk to the sitting room. Having worn her going-out gear, Kaji waits patiently at the sofa.
EXT. ROAD - DAY (TRAVELLING)
In the middle row of a 8-seater car rests Kaji in the arms of GANG MEMBER#2 (a young man). Delighted in seeing everything moving, Kaji smiles.
KAJI (V.O.)
On the move is great! The air is fresh!
EXT CAR PARK - PROMENADE - DAY
Getting down on the ground, Kaji does her wet-dog shakes and then leads the pack leader and gang members to a promenade. People and pets dot the way.
KAJI (V.O.)
What a fraternity here. Different
races and breeds, different looks
and sizes - loving each other and
gathering together.
Kaji greets friendly ones and ignores snobbish ones. Arriving at a restaurant, Kaji is put inside her cot stroller.
EXT - OPEN-AIR RESTAURANT - DAY
People passing by turn their heads at Kaji.
KAJI (V.O.)
I couldn't care less...
An OLD MAN sitting next to their table also stares at Kaji. We hear people at his table speaking French. Kaji is determined not to return any favour.
OLD MAN
(To Gang Member#1)
Can I take a picture of your
pet?
GANG MEMBER#1
Yes! Go ahead.
Kaji looks away... The background music of "Smile a little smile for me" begins to play... The old man can't take a good image of her face at all.
KAJI (V.O.)
I don't like people taking .
photos of me as if they're
hunting my head. They'd
offer me something nice.
Even if they manage to
capture my image, I won't
smile.
Kaji turns away from camera lens.
GANG MEMBER#1
(To the old man)
She's camera-shy.
They smile embarrassingly to each other. The old man and THOSE with him leave.
KAJI (V.O.)
And when you're gone, you
can only imagine the shadow
of my smile!
The background music of "The shadow of your smile" begins to play...
