FADE IN:
INT. SITTING ROOM - DAY
KAJI by his side, PETER is having breakfast, reading a newspaper column at the same time.
PETER (V.O.)
Yes, Alzheimer's Disease can
cause a lot of troubles to
the patient and the family.
Getting a car key from a table top, Peter goes to his study.
EXT - LIFT-ROAD-CAR PARK - DAY
Getting out of a lift, Peter runs along an estate road towards a car park. Standing next to a SMART car, Peter unzips his handbag and searches for something.
PETER (V.O.)
(Shocked)
Where's my car key?
Peter searches again, frantically.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd)
My practice has been to
put it inside the exterior
pocket and zip it. Since
the key isn't there, I
might have left it in my
study.
Fast backward. Peter rushes out of the car park, crosses the road, and takes the lift up.
INT. STUDY - DAY
Peter focuses on sets of keys on a table top.
PETER (V.O.)
No, it isn't here. Where
have I put it? Could I have
just put it inside my
jacket pocket and the key
flung out when I ran?
EXT - LIFT-ROAD-CAR PARK
Peter surveys the ground along the way. He approaches a GUARD patrolling nearby.
PETER
I've lost my car key. Have
you found any?
GUARD
I've patrolled a few times
haven't seen anything dropped
on the road.
PETER (V.O.)
I had better contact the
control office, so that if
anyone has picked up the
key, the office would know
who's looking for it.
Peter goes inside a nearby control office.
A beat.
Peter comes out.
PETER(V.O.) (Cont'd)
If the key is still inside
my premises, I'd be able to
find it in due course.
Meanwhile, I shouldn't allow
my forgetfulness to interrupt
with my morning exercises.
INT. SWIMMING POOL - DAY
Mostly elderly swimmers. Having finished several laps, Peter rests by the pool wall.
PETER (V.O.)
I've thought about wearing
another jacket. Could I have
inserted the car key inside
that jacket's pockets? Yes,
I must have done that
subconsciously!
Peter swims fast for a couple of more laps and leaves quickly.
INT. STUDY - DAY
Rushing in, Peter sees the jacket and begins to search the pockets.
PETER (V.O.)
I'd be very disappointed if
the car key isn't there!
Peter looks very disappointed.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd)
How can I forget where I've
put the car key in less than
30 minutes? I've been misplacing
things from time to time.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd)
Weeks ago, I forgot a medical
appointment, but remembered it
later.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd)
(Frustrated)
My memories have been playing
tricks on me!
Looking at a chair nearby, Peter sees a protruding object between the backrest and the seat. He uses his fingers to search and pulls out something.
PETER
(Relieved)
Oh! The car key is here!
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.)
I don't think I've any
emotional problems making
me confused or forgetful.I
still make good judgment a
lot of the time.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd)
I can forget which day it is.
But such happens, most of the
time, while I'm travelling
abroad.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Sometimes, I forget which
word to use and how to spell
it. But my prolific writing
helps me remember and even
learn new ones.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
(Confidently)
I'm just aging normally. I'm
not suffering from Alzheimer's
Disease!
Peter begins to work on his computer.
