What A Difference A Day Made

Peter Kam Fai Cheung SBS

FADE IN:

INT. CLUB HOUSE - DAY

PETER looks at the table clock displaying: 10:10.

PETER (V.O.)

If the hearing was not

vacated, I should be in

court now, and won't

be here.

Pausing.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

Not only that, I would

be very busy before

the hearing as no

preparation is ever

enough.

Pausing.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

But I was instrumental

in resolving the dispute

without a hearing. Our

pre-hearing shot was

so persuasive that the

other side had to give

in.

Pausing.

PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd)

And, I get paid the

same if I spent another

24 hours on the case.

Pausing.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

Perhaps, I'll go see a

movie.

Peter reads a newspapers' movie reviews.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

Well, I don't have the

urge to see any.

Peter surfs the web with his phone.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

Let me make the day a

little different. I'll try

the Island East swimming

pool!

EXT - HONG KONG FILM ARCHIVE - DAY

Coming out from the Island East Sports Centre, the wet-haired Peter sees the entrance of the Hong Kong Film Archive.

PETER(V.O.)

I haven't come here for

a long time.

The door opens automatically as Peter enters.

INT. FILM ARCHIVE EXHIBITION ROOM - DAY

Lobby decors include an old and large screening device against many black-and-white images. Following the sound source, Peter sees moving black-and-white pictures on a large screen.

PETER (V.O.)

Oh, it's a cocktail film

featuring stars and places

when I was a kid.

Peter sits steadfastly watching the film.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

I've already watched it

from beginning to end,

But there isn't one shot

of the Castle Peak Hotel.

FLASHBACK

INT. CASTLE PEAK HOTEL - NIGHT (1969)

A bow-tied SUPERVISOR (50s) speaks to a group of bow-tied WAITERS including Peter (15).

SUPERVISOR

The film crew has booked

the hotel beach for exclusive

filming tonight. No one

should disturb them.

Waiters nod. Peter overhears whispers: "They must be filming something not suitable for children!"

EXT. CAFE - DAY

Panoramic sea view. Peter waits at coffee tables. The Supervisor comes and speaks to Peter.

SUPERVISOR

Here will be the location

for a film scene. Would

you work overtime and

serve them food and

drinks?

PETER

No problem at all!

EXT. CAFE - NIGHT

Lime lights, crew and a film camera. Peter works behind the bar. Extras take their positions, acting as other customers. We hear: "Action" as a camera rolls and STARS enter.

PETER (V.O.)

Judging from the camera

angle, I won't be included

even as background. Anyway

they pay me extra for my

extra service.

END FLASHBACK

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

But I 've never seen the

movies that I knew were

shot there. Hong Kong

movie's production then

was only second to

Hollywood.

Peter turns to another screening corner.

PETER (V.O.)

Oh, this small one features

location sets in old hotels.

I'm sure there would be

clips of Castle Peak Hotel.

Peter watches attentively with his smart phone camera ready.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

Here they come...

Below the screen, a display indicates: "Castle Peak Hotel".

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

(Disappointed)

These are day shots. The

beach scenes were very

far away from the Hotel...

Oh, that's all!

Peter turns his attention to an imitated tea-house corner. Finding the menu on the table interesting, he takes a photo of it.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

At least, "Castle Peak Hotel"

is printed in black and white.

Pausing.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

In my mind, my days there

were still very colourful. My

teenage romance started

from there.

Peter walks towards the exit.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

What a difference a day made!

EXT. ROAD - NIGHT

Rainy. Peter walks in the rain.

PETER (V.O.)

I don't mind getting wet

at all...
