A Source of Strength

Peter Kam Fai Cheung SBS

FADE IN:

INT. SLEEPING ROOM - DAY

Waking up, PETER checks his phone images.

PETER (V.O.)

Why it was so happy to

reminisce the good times

in the past together?

FLASHBACK

EXT. HKU MOOT COURT - NIGHT

Forum setting. Peter and GENTLEMEN#1, 2, 3 & 4 are on stage. GENTLEMAN#1 is speaking.

PETER (V.O.)

We've each an 18-minute

slot. We're all nostalgic

and have lots to talk

about.

A beat. Discretely, Peter checks his phone clock.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

Oh, my good friend has

overrun. I 'd be brief to

squeeze some time.

As Gentleman#1 finishes, Peter stands up and speaks. A LADY came up to the podium computer to click images for him. We see a closed-up faded photo of Peter.

PETER

This photo was taken

when I graduated in

1984. You can see I

was not young. I was

30 years old.

Pausing.

PETER (V.O.)

But for the Government's

training opportunity, I

wouldn't have the privilege

at all!

END FLASHBACK

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

That was the only photo

I took at the Law Library on

graduation day. And I finished

my presentation including

my singing in 10 minutes.

FLASHBACK

INT. HKU MOOT COURT - NIGHT

Q&A Session. Peter responds to questions from Gentleman#4. Sitting at the front row, GENTLEMAN#5 listens very attentively.

PETER

Since the present Director

of Intellectual Property is

here, I should share that

the structure of Hong Kong's

IP system was based on

the Layout-Design

(Topography) of Integrated

Circuits Ordinance 1994.

Photo sessions begin as the forum ends. GENTLEMAN#5 comes up to talk to Peter.

GENTLEMAN#5

The stories you told were

marvellous! I've checked

that you did many things

in developing Hong Kong's

IP system.

PETER (V.O.)

Oh, that's an endorsement

for my long-gone contribution!

And he has done his

homework!

The lady and the gentlemen chat happily. We hear Gentleman#3 saying: "It'd be nice if we'd have another sharing 10 years later."

RETURN TO PRESENT

Peter researches with his phone.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

I see. Nostalgia as both

an emotion and a thought

process is good for us.

Scientific studies reveal

that it is actually a source

of strength.

Pausing.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont')

Not only that it heightens

our self-esteem, it also boosts

our continuity through increasing our social connectivity.

And we'd become more

optimistic about the future.

INT. STUDY - DAY

Connecting his phone with his computer, Peter picks an image depicting his speaking on stage against the backdrop of the faded image of him on the screen as the feature photo of a blog post.

PETER (V.O.)

I'd reminisce this sharing

experience!

FADE OUT. The End
