FADE IN:
EXT. ROAD - NIGHT
Exiting from a swimming pool, PETER checks his phone mails. We see in the inbox a mail from "Harvard Club of Hong Kong".
PETER (V.O.)
Oh, "Memorial Service for
Dr Tao Ho"...
Peter reads on.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
One of his earlier projects
was the Hong Kong Arts
Center...
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
The building made a
refreshing difference from
other Wanchai buildings.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
My late wife worked in
the Music Office there
from 1979 to the early
1980s. She parked her
her car in a nearby
open-air car park.
Peter reads on.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
But there's no mention of
his work in St. Stephen's
College.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
I recall one of the College
buildings was designed by
him. Our elder son boarded
there from age 5-16, shaping
him into an independent
person.
With eyes still sticking on his phone screen, Peter follows others to take the cross walks.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Who hasn't visited the first giant panda pavilion at
Ocean Park? It's his another
project.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
It was just in Feb 2019 that
I went there with my wife.
We couldn't see any panda
but I admired his work
once again. And our elder
daughter is now working
at Ocean Park.
FLASHBACK
INT. CONFERENCE ROOM - DAY (1990s)
Dr TAO HO arrives to chair a meeting attended by distinguished LADIES and GENTLEMAN. Peter sits with the secretariat, observing Dr Ho, chairing it.
END FLASHBACK
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
It was only when he willingly
assume the Chair of the
Hong Kong IP Society that I
began engaging him in person. He's very easy-
going.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
I knew he was designing
the HKSAR Regional
flag. My interest focused
on his copyright authorship,
ownership, and assignments.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
I believed that he didn't
care about the IP in the
flag design.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
He was such a warm
person that when a
junior colleague who
supported him for the
Society's work got
married, he would join
her wedding dinner.
Peter arrives his residential block.
INT. ROAD - DAY
Waiting at the driver seat of a car, Peter re-reads the Harvard Club mail.
PETER (V.O.)
He was 82. Since 2002,
he had been debilitated
by a stroke.
Peter does some mental calculations.
PETER (V.O.)
He was about 65 then...
I am turning 65 in weeks.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.)
Good health is the basis
happiness, fortune and
hope.
EXT. SWIMMING POOL - DAY
Exiting, Peter sees the China and HKSAR flags hoisting nearby. Peter waits for the wind to open the flags and takes photos of the HKSAR one.
PETER (V.O.)
His work makes the
spirit of an elite
Hongkonger so visible and tangible!
INT. STUDY - NIGHT
PETER (V.O.)
Regrettably, I'd have to
miss Dr Tao Ho's Memorial
Service at his chosen
venue - the Wing Kwong
Pentecostal Holiness
Church - another of his
work, as I won't be in
town.
Peter surfs the web and checks the aesthetic design of the Church.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
The little personal thing
I can do is to feature Dr
Tao Ho as one of the
characters in my Memories
website, which isn't quite
visible and tangible.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd)
Memories aside, that's
how I'd put an end to a
relationship and to
re-open my heart!
