FADE IN:
INT. STUDY - DAY
PETER checks his phone mail inboxes.
PETER (V.O.)
Oh, a notification from
Gwulo: Old Hong Kong -
a new comment on
Castle Peak Hotel?
FLASHBACK
INT. STUDY - DAY (2015)
Leisurely, Peter surfs the web and types "Castle Peak Hotel" and checks the search results.
PETER (V.O.)
I try to mine the one
in old Hong Kong, not
the one with the same
name in Cebu.
Peter swipes up the list and sees under the caption "Gwulo: Old Hong Kong" and the content page of "Castle Peak Hotel (1949-????)"
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
I worked there till its
last day of business in
1973. Let me write my
"Fond Memories of
Castle Peak Hotel"!
After registration, Peter begins to write paragraphs after paragraphs.
END FLASHBACK
Peter taps the mail link and sees the comment: "Hello Peter, I remember Supervisor Gei of Castle Peak Hotel, my late father called him "Gei-Suk". I met him a few times when I was in kindergarten age. My father said Gei-Suk passed away from a heart attack during shopping..."
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Okay, it's natural he
wasn't around for a long
time. Although I lost
contact with him and
other colleagues since
1973, he and others
continue to exist in my
mind.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
How wonderful to have
the opportunity to get
this information after
decades of time-lapse.
Peter replies.
INT. SLEEPING ROOM - NIGHT
Holding his phone in bed, Peter is in thoughts.
PETER (V.O)
Why the characters,
including me, scenes,
actions and mood of
the long-gone Castle
Peak Hotel didn't go
away?
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Yes, I spent long hours and
days there working a part-
time waiter from 15-19.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd)
More importantly, the
personnel there were the
first persons who recognized
. my character, attitude
and ability to deliver value.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
The kind of exposure and
inspiration, not necessarily
to be rich and famous, but
to be reasonably successful
like the customers, was
invaluable.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Yes, my first romance
originated from there too.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
They, in a way, defined me
and shaped me then and
now.
Peter uses his phone's verbal function to dictate, and then makes some corrections by hand.
INT. STUDY - DAY
Peter checks his phone.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Another notification from
Old Hong Kong? Haven't
I read it and replied already?
Peter taps the link.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Oh! It's a new one!
Peter reads on.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
People called his late father
"Ah Kong"... Oh, I remember
him. He was several years
older than me. We shared
one thing in common -
work dedication!
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
No doubt he nurtured his
son so well. He would
engage me. I feel like
seeing light in a dark
time tunnel.
Peter retires to a sofa.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Some crossed path with
me for a while, impacted
on me and continued their life journeys. Now,
not only him, other young
ones cross path with me
while I carry on my life
journey.
FLASHBACK
INT. SLEEPING ROOM - NIGHT
Peter checks some video clips in his phone.
PETER (V.O.)
These are the feedbacks
of my talk to the HKUST
undergraduate hopefuls
the other day.
As Peter taps the "Play" key of the clips one by one, we see and hear boys and girls speaking in turns: "I've learned from Mr Peter Cheung that we've to learn effectively..", "Mr Cheung has enlightened us that creative and innovative things don't come easy, and I'm inspired to take on the challenge...","He's a role model for us and I want to be as successful as him..."
Peter has his eyes wide open.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Well, they're Hong Kong's
future.
END FLASHBACK
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
The unexpected connection,
if visible, is rainbow-like, as
I feel emotionally much
richer than before!
Peter smiles through his eyes.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Through my heart, my soul
is smiling too!
Peter takes another look of the Kwulo: Old Hong Kong website.
