FADE IN:
INT. SLEEPING ROOM - MORNING
The table clock displays 6:00am. Peters rolls over in bed.
PETER (V.O.)
I can change the lyrics a bit
to make it sound better.
FLASHBACK
EXT. SWIMMING POOL - MORNING (MAY 15, 2019)
Peter swims freely.
PETER (V.O.)
Can I make a Cantonese
version of "At 65"? See
if I can get a line first?
Peter slows down after 50m.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd)
I've two lines of "長者"
(Senior Citizen) already.
That's a very good sign.
INT. STUDY - NOON (MAY 15, 2019)
Relaxing on a sofa, Peter uses his finger to write on his iPad Mini.
PETER (V.O.)
It's a pleasant surprise
that I've the Cantonese
lyrics in a couple of hours.
"At 65" was conceived
and written in English.
If I must have a Cantonese version, I'd write in
Cantonese first.
INT. MUSIC ROOM - AFTERNOON (MAY 15, 2019)
Finishing a recording session, Peter taps the "stop" buttons of his devices.
PETER (V.O.)
I believe the last take
was quite OK. I've got
to go.
INT. STUDY - NIGHT (MAY 15, 2019)
Peter inserts video clips to a sound track, listening to it intermittently.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Well, the third syllable of the
Chorus sounds odd. I want
the song to be easy to sing.
Peter grabs his ESP and goes to the music room.
INT. MUSIC ROOM - NIGHT (MAY 15, 2019)
Rhythm guitar amplifier on, Peter taps the "record" icon on his iPad Mini before playing and singing.
After a few guitar strums, he stops to tap the"retake" button. He repeats the action a couple of times.
PETER (V.O.)
I don't think I can push an
acceptable version tonight.
I've to put it aside. After all,
who cares for one tonight?
END FLASHBACK
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Since 2011, I've put aside
many projects, Some of
the music and lyrics weren't
bad at all. I shouldn't lose
"長者" (Senior Citizen), as
it's my song.
EXT. ROAD - DAY
The car radio reports:... I.M Pei has died at 102...
PETER (V.O.)
Oh...but he's already 102.
He added a lot of value in
his field.
INT. CLUB HOUSE - DAY
Reading a newspaper article, Peter smiles.
PETER (V.O.)
Oh, the Cambodian teenager
hawking souvenirs in several
languages is called Thuch
Salik. With internet and actual
support, he's now doing not
what he's fit to do, but what he
wants to do, such as studying
Chinese.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.)
He has potential and quality
to add good value in due
course.
INT. MUSIC ROOM - DAY
Looking at the lyrics on his iPad, Peter can't sing to the beat. He adjusts the rhythm tempos.
PETER (V.O.)
What sounds good in my
mind is very different when
I sing it out loud. What's
wrong?
Peter tries to record, but taps the "stop" icons soon after.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd)
(Frustrated)
It's so near and yet so far.
Should I put it aside again?
Disturbed, Peter plays back "At 65" at YouTube, and adjusts the tempo of the guitar rhythm amplifier accordingly. He then plays to the beat and discovers something.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
The song would sound
better if I enrich the
opening riff.
Peter records again and again his performance. Having done the 7th take, he looks relaxed.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
I've played and sung reasonably
well. Yes, I've got my song!
INT. STUDY - DAY.
iPad Mini in hand, Peter inserts video clips depicting scenes from Hong Kong, Shanghai, Taipei, Nagasaki, Tokyo, Sydney and Gold Coast.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
I like the closing free-fight
scene. Who would know
the tall guy is my younger
son!
Peter then uploads and shares the"長者" (Senior Citizen) music video on Facebook, YouTube, Weibo and Instagram, in addition to his websites.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
That how I can add value
in the senior citizen sector
now.
The wall clock displays 6:00 pm.
FADE OUT.
The End
