FADE IN:
INT. BLUE CABIN - DAY
Waking up, PETER checks his phone's alarm clock.
PETER (V.O.)
I always wake up before
time.
INT. BLUE CAFE - DAY
Facing the blue sea. Enjoying the sea view and his breakfast, Peter talks to himself.
PETER (V.O.)
I'm leaving this peaceful
country port after breakfast.
In the afternoon, I'll be back
to the new and unhappy "country port".
Peter drinks his grape juice.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Away from home, I'm still
aware of outsiders' considerable
interest over Hong Kong's
disorder.
FLASHBACK
INT. BLUE CABIN - NIGHT
Lying in bed with his smart phone in hand, Peter reads WeChat messages.
PETER (V.O.)
Well, I've never seen so
many chats about Hong
Kong...
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Oh, they're discussing
the lack of analytical
capacity of Hongkongers.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Oh, one coins the “郷港”
label, as Hongkongers
are no longer “fragrant
(香)”
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
They chat if Shanghai
and Beijing can replace
“郷港” as a financial
centre.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
They're elites. Hongkongers
have done their home a
great disservice and are
still enjoying it!
Looking unhappy, Peter sends a What'sApp message to his family's chat group before putting away his phone.
INT. DESIGN SHOP - DAY
As Peter is about to pay for his purchase, the SHOPKEEPER (50s) ask curiously.
SHOPKEEPER
Where're you from?
PETER
Hong Kong.
SHOPKEEPER
(Hesitating)
People there... strike...
Peter nods.
SHOPKEEPER
I give you a discount...
That makes Peter happy.
INT. TRAVEL AGENCY - DAY
Arriving, Peter presents a voucher to an AGENT (40s).
AGENT
I've been waiting for you.
You're from Hong Kong?
I've never been there.
Peter nods.
AGENT (Cont'd)
People there protest in
large numbers.
PETER
Yes. Hong Kong has got
around 30,000 police
officers.
The agent looks shocked.
PETER (Cont'd)
The Police can't arrest
tens of thousands of
protesters for unlawful
assembly...
Pausing.
AGENT
Peaceful though.
PETER (Cont'd)
Yes, but there're some
violence.
Peter leaves to board a pick-up coach.
EXT. COACH - DAY
At a stop, other TOURISTS get on board. We hear someone speaking in Cantonese: Hong Kong is an unhappy place now. Let's go and have some fun!
PETER (V.O.)
Quite right. Hong Kong
has been undergoing a
downward spiral.
EXT. BLUE CAVE - DAY
In front of the cave is a laguna at low tide largely surrounded by corals. The sun rays in the afternoon can't shine through the laguna.
Following the GUIDES, tourists including Peter jump into the laguna and snorkel towards the cave.
PETER (V.O.)
The colour of the cave
doesn't look like the
one on adverts. Timing
is everything including
politics.
EXT. SHORELINE - DAY
Little blue fish swim freely in pockets of clear water along the shoreline. Peter squats down to observe them.
PETER (V.O.)
The blue fish is so blue.
Hong Kong is blue on
blue.
Following the guides, Peter and OTHERS snorkel along the coral shoreline.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
The deeper the sea, the
bluer it is. The fish isn't
bothered with our snorkelling. I come here in peace!
END FLASHBACK
INT. CLUBHOUSE SWIMMING POOL - DAY
Light and deep blue floor-tile patterns. Peter swims, avoiding clashing other SWIMMERS.
PETER (V.O.)
Conflicts are good for
dramas but bad in real
life.
INT. CLUBHOUSE - DAY
Peter researches with his phone.
PETER (V.O.)
Oshigaki is 4 times bigger
than Hong Kong island.
It has a population of
about 50,000, while Hong
Kong island should have
around 1,500,0000.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd)
Perhaps, many Hongkongers
have no place to go. But
when will the protesting
ones wake up? FADE OUT.
The End
