FADE IN:
INT. RESTAURANT - NIGHT
LADIES and GENTLEMEN seated at a round table. PETER speaks to a PROFESSOR (60s) sitting opposite him.
PETER
Many thanks for your
kind musical suggestions.
They broaden my song
composition horizon.
PROFESSOR
There're many creative
options...
Checking her smart phone, a SINGER (60s) sitting opposite to Peter interrupts.
SINGER
Would you write a song
about this gathering?
PETER
(Perplexed)
What?
SINGER
You check our group's
messages. John is
asking you to write a
song.
Checking his phone, Peter sees photos of the gathering, comments and a suggestion: ... song, Peter pls.
PETER (V.O.)
How encouraging!
But how can I fiddle
while Hong Kong
"burns"?
PROFESSOR
Somebody has written
a song about the current
Hong Kong turmoil.
Peter gestures that he doesn't know.
PETER
Perhaps a song with
a positive theme may
do good for Hong Kong...
PROFESSOR
You've got one already...
As Peter looks perplexed, the professor sings that the theme of the Peter's song: "Do Good For You & Me". Peter is stunned.
FLASHBACK
INT. CLUB HOUSE RESTAURANT - NIGHT (2012)
Roughly the same group of LADIES and GENTLEMEN inside a room. Carrying an acoustic guitar, Peter passes his song sheets to the Singer before a portable organ and other PARTICIPANTS including the Professor.
PETER
These're the songs
I've recently composed.
I'd like to have your
comments on them.
The melodies are simple
and predictable.
PETER (Cont'd)
(To Singer)
All my songs are in Key
C.
The Singer at Keyboard nods. After counting 1, 2, 3, 4, Peter begins to play the guitar and sings his song: "Do Good For You And Me". Soon, participants sing along. Claps and laughters follow when the song ends.
PROFESSOR & SINGER
Peter! Not bad!
PETER
(Big smiles)
Is that right? Let's do
it one more time then.
This time, Professor,
you play the guitar.
As the professor plays the guitar and Peter and other participants sing happily together. A LADY (30s) uses her phone to shoot a video.
END FLASHBACK
PETER (V.O.)
For happy moments,
we don't mind to have
more. The theme of
my catchy song is very
positive.
PROFESSOR
The parodists may alter
the lyrics to make the
song fit for their purpose.
Changing some lyrics, the professor sings the theme - No One Would Mind To Have More.
PETER (V.O.)
(Nodding)
That's true. But I've
the copyright in my
song though. And I
can take infringement
action...
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Yes, my song Do Good
For You & Me is good
enough and I don't need
to "fiddle" or write another
one now!
PETER
Incidentally, I have the
opening verse of a song
with a theme on the
Greater Bay Area...
Peter then sings it to the professor.
PETER (V.O.)
But for weeks, I haven't
been able to follow that
up...
PROFESSOR
(Gesturing drum rolls)
Add two parts of Chinese
drum rolls right after that
would make a great
difference.
PETER
(Enlightened)
Oh! Yes! That's why he's
so highly regarded...
INT. STUDY - DAY
Sitting behind the computer, Peter is pondering.
PETER
Yes, what's good is worth
repeating.
Peter mines his song "Do Good For You & Me" on Youtube and inserts it in his blog post draft.
FADE OUT. The End
