Home Sweet Home

Peter Kam Fai Cheung SBS

FADE IN:

INT. SLEEPING ROOM - DAY

Waking up, Peter picks up his phone.

PETER (V.O.)

I bumped into this social

media platform while

researching. What is

Quora actually?

Researching.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

It was founded by two

ex-Facebook employees

in 2009.

Pausing.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

That was the time I used

Facebook actively, as I

was recovering from my

broken ankle.

Pausing.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

Now, the Quora App has

300 million monthly visitors.

Pausing.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

I only began using it since

the Yuen Long riot and now

my stuff has accumulated

2.4k views.

On the screen, a long list of unanswered questions.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

Let me deal with them

after I've attended my

medical appointment.

Peter remembers something.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

Oh! I forgot I've to swim

first! So obsessive with it!

INT. CLINIC - DAY

Peter sits in a waiting area dotting with PATIENTS. Nearby, a healthy standing MAN#1(79) chats with a frail wheel-chaired MAN#2 (89).

MAN#2

I've been living in an elderly

home for over 20 years. It

was very difficult to get in.

MAN#1

A friend of mine lived in

Canada for 40 years. At

the age of 99, he decided

to return to Hong Kong

to die here. Now, he's 107.

PETER (V.O.)

In terms of longevity, that's

encouraging for the older

folk. In terms of our link

with Hong Kong, it's always

home sweet home.

EXT. TRAIN CAR - DAY

Checking the Quora App, Peter bumps into a Daily Digest and reads.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

Here's a pertinent observation:

...Hong Kong protesters are

destroying their home...

Let me answer one question

first.

On Peter's phone screen, we see the question:

How will China ultimately deal with differing attitudes and freedoms demanded from Hong Kong residents?

Peter types his answer:

Ultimately, China will satisfy the basic needs of Hong Kong residents as a whole.

Incremental democratic development in political systems has been a historical trend.

The apparent poverty of historicism is a temporal mismatch between the governments and the governed.

Lost between utopia and distopia, China and Hong Kong residents live on, as time goes by.

Peter taps the "Submit" key.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

There's a lot of political

science and philosophy

in the four short paras.

Hope readers can get

them.

Pausing.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

Serious it would seem,

the lines are emotively

imaginative...

Peter sees a new notification.

PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd)

One has already upvoted

my answer. I'm defending

my home, making it sweet

in my own way.

Wearing a smile, Peter gets off the train.

FADE OUT. The End
