FADE IN:
INT. STUDY - NIGHT
PETER watches BBC breaking news, live, Hong Kong, 23:33.
PETER (V.O.)
Despite the on-going
combat at the Airport,
I must go to bring my
wife and my daughter
home.
Ding! Peter checks his phone's What'sApp notification: Landed.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Delayed, but earlier
than expected.
Peter types: I'll come right away.
A reply: Drive safely.
EXT. ROADS TO AIRPORT - NIGHT
Peter drives a Previa. Speeding taxis pass over.
PETER (V.O.)
Clear traffic. Business
at the Airport.
As his Previa is approaching Terminal 1, he sees the road leading to the Departure Hall is blocked by Police cars.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Yes, fighting is on-
going at the Departure
Hall.
Turning to the single carriageway that leads to Terminal 1 Car park, Peter sees cars parking on one side of the carriageway and some CHAPS waiting nearby.
Peter drives at the tortoise's pace, as one chap rearranges the traffic cones.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Getaway cars and
drivers.
Passing the car park's drop gates, Peter sees the loading spots are all parked with cars with young chaps around - many of them dressed in black.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd) I'm entering their turf right
now. Where are my wife
and daughter waiting?
Peter then sees his WIFE waving at him not far away.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Okay, let's do the loading
quick.
Unlocking the doors, Peter gets out. As his wife brings a baggage into the middle of the car, his DAUGHTER another to the rear.
Having pulled down the real car door, Peter sees the door hitting his daughter's head a bit. In a knee-jerk reaction to intervene, the door slams on his thumb.
PETER
(Painful shouts)
Wow! Reopen the door!
Quick!
WIFE
What's the matter? Let
me drive!
Quickly, they take their positions inside the car and Peter's wife drives off. Peter massages his thumb.
PETER
The pain makes me
shiver. It's just my left
thumb and shouldn't
impact on my court
performance hours
later.
INT. COURT CANTEEN - DAY
Peter checks his phone's Quora App.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd)
I answer questions
requested by people
all over the world.
In three weeks, 21k
content views...
Peters scrolls up and down the phone screen.
PETER (V.O. (Cont'd)
People still have many
unanswered questions
about Hong Kong.
Peter focuses on one question.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd) This one wants to know
about seeing the protests
in person.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
I love peace and am a
law-abiding citizen. What
I witnessed the behind-
the-scene support at the
Airport and the indirect
impact on me is worth
documenting.
Peter begins to type: I am a "Daydream Believer" of perfect domestic legal orders. I would even dream that the imperfect international order would become perfect...And after 18 hours now, I still have a "Bad Finger".
