FADE IN:
INT. SITTING ROOM - KITCHEN - DAY
Coming out of the sleeping room, PETER sniffs something.
PETER (V.O.)
It's the smell from the
toasters... But our maid
is on holiday back home...
Peter sees his younger DAUGHTER inside the kitchen.
PETER
Making breakfast for
Mom?
Her daughter hands a small piece of cut bread to Peter.
DAUGHTER
You only give this bit
to our pet.
Nodding, Peter immediately throws bits of the bread in the air. His pet KAJI jumps to hunt them readily and happily.
Finishing that, Peter sees a toasted bread on the table.
PETER
Is this...
DAUGHTER
That's for you. I've done
Mom's.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.)
It's her first time making
a breakfast for me. She
has grown up and will
return to UK for her
university years.
Peter takes a photo of the toasted bread.
As she goes out, Peter's WIFE makes a quick remark to their daughter.
WIFE
Clean up the kitchen
before you go back to
sleep.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Oh she woke up just
to prepare our breakfast...
INT. CLUBHOUSE - DAY
Peter is reading newspapers. He focuses on an article's insert featuring a masked young girl peering up from a sea of umbrellas in a protest.
PETER (V.O.)
She's a young student.
Was it just a day out in
the streets for fun? Or
about the Extradition
Bill?
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Why she, her teachers
and those accompanying
her think now that she'd
become a fugitive wanted
by China later?
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Hundreds of China-wanted
fugitives may be staying in
Hong Kong now. How
come this young girl would
sympathize them?
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Was she taught that if she
is honest and refrains from
violence, she'd generally
be law-abiding? Why was
dragged into the unlawful
assembly?
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Hong Kong is very sick,
intellectually.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
How can people drop their
false perception and
avoid being foolish?
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
But the girl is surrounded
by peers and others
having the similar mindset.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
As what beauty is as
beauty does, and what
stupid is as stupid does,
so I say, what young is
as young does.
INT. STUDY - DAY
Peter stares at the bread photo on his phone screen.
PETER (V.O.)
I always like Bread's soft
rocks.
In his mobile YouTube app, Peter types: Bread the band, and taps on: Everything I Own.
After the captivating introductory guitar riffs, we hear a voice singing: You sheltered me from harm, kept me warm, kept me warm...
FLASHBACK
INT. SLEEPING ROOM - NIGHT (1958)
At a bed corner, Peter's DAD (23) prepares Peter(4)'s bed spot.
PETER (V.O.)
I love my Dad making
the bed for me.
RETURN TO PRESENT
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
My Dad gave my life
to me, and let me develop
in my own way. Those
were rough but fine years.
We hear from Peter's mobile device the singing: I'd give everything I own...just to have you back again...
Peter sighs.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
There're just many things
and relationships that we
can't take them for granted.
Others or nature will take
them away anytime.
Peter takes another look of the simple bread photo depicted on this phone screen.
FADE OUT. The End
