FADE IN.
INT. SITTING ROOM - DAY
Seeing PETER coming out from the sleeping room, his WIFE talks to him.
WIFE
Where do you want to
go in Britain?
PETER
To Scotland. I haven't
been there for decades.
WIFE
Too far away, I just don't
want to drive and drive.
PETER
Then you plan where
you want to go.
EXT. OXFORDSHIRE - DAY
Peter is driving a black Mercedes. His wife navigates with the aid of the car's GPS and her hand-held device. Their DAUGHTER sits at the back.
PETER
I drove past Oxfordshire
before...
FLASHBACK
EXT. OXFORDSHIRE - DAY (Winter 1986)
Sunny. Peter (32) is driving a red Micra. His WIFE SHARON is at the passenger seat with a map on her lap.
PETER
I don't see any parking
slots. It seems there
isn't much to see here.
As there's still a long time
from King's Lnn, we just
drive on.
Sharon nods.
END FLASHBACK
WIFE
Look at the car park sign
over there.
Peter nods.
PETER (V.O.)
I haven't been here before.
EXT. TOWN CENTER - DAY
Peter, wife and daughter are strolling.
PETER
Our common link with
Oxford is that my former
law lecturer and your
pupil-master was a
graduate here. Let's go to his Magdalen College
and take a few photos
first!
His wife nods.
EXT. MAGDALEN COLLEGE - DAY
Quite a lot of passersby and car traffic. Peter and his wife take photos of the premises from the outside as their daughter looks on.
PETER
Let's have a photo
here. I wish to send
it over to our common
friend.
Having directed them to pose at a pedestrian island in the middle of a road, their daughter waits for the traffic to pass before taking a photo for them with a phone.
WIFE
Let's go to our next
destination - the
University Church.
Peter taps his phone as they walk along.
PETER
Photo sent!
Checking his phone screen later, Peter reads aloud.
PETER (Cont'd)
Just talking about you,
then...
PETER (V.O.)
We haven't met or
communicated for
months. As our
itinerary includes
Oxfordshire, I've been
thinking about our
common friend.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
So it's just a coincidence.
We do not communicate
via any unknown senses
or telepathy.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
It's only when we've modern
communication technology
that we know of our
unknown communication.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
I like the film "Ghost" a lot.
I completely buy-in the
make-believe story.
INT. UNIVERSITY CHURCH, OXFORD - DAY
Peter and his wife are taking photos and videos at the accessible end of the Church tower.
PETER (V.O.)
She's made the right
decision to come up.
There is a lot to see
here, although we
aren't religious.
As a TOURIST wants to pass by, Peter makes way by hiding himself inside a single-guard booth. Then, he sees at eye level, initials "Sione 1811" and "Lee 1811" inscribed on the wall.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Oh, they came here over
200 years ago. Without
their graffiti, I wouldn't
know.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Do they know if I'm here
now? Unless there're
unknown senses...But
what's point? I won't
feel for them and vice
versa.
Pausing.
PETER (V..O.) (Cont'd)
It would be very different
if Sharon would know.
Although it isn't scientific,
I really hope there're
unknown senses,
After sighing, Peter takes photos of the graffiti and leaves.
FADE OUT.
