Peter Kam Fai Cheung SBS

FADE IN.

INT. BEIJING INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT - DAY

Arrival hall. PETER is looking for someone. Then he sees smiling FACES and waving hands. Then a LADY (20s) presents Peter with a bouquet of sunflowers and roses.

PETER

(Excited and delighted)

For me? Thank you

very much!

INT. QUANJUDE, OLYMPIC VILLAGE - NIGHT

Roast duck Beijing style, among other dishes. Four GENTLEMEN and two LADIES sit at a round table. A HOST (40s) talks to Peter.

HOST

I wouldn't come here

but for the request of

our Japanese' friends.

PETER (V.O.)

That's OK with me as

I haven't had the classic

Quanjude roast duck

for several years.

A CHEF (30s) brings in a roast duck and begins to slice it as Peter and a Japanese LADY (60s) take photos of the presentation.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

(Sampling a slice)

Wow! That's delicious.

Other dishes are put on the table.

PETER

(To host)

Why did you order so

much?

HOST

(Shaking his head)

It's a standard 6-person

set meal for a state-

owned enterprise.

Later, seeing slices of roast duck on the dishes, a Japanese GUEST (70s) makes a remark through an INTERPRETER (40s).

GUEST

We haven't done justice

to the food.

Peter nods.

PETER (V.O.)

We're full. What a waste.

Good-turned-bad impressions.

INT. CONFERENCE HALL - DAY

Grand stage with floodlights and hundreds of PARTICIPANTS on the floor. As the host finishes his speech, Peter goes up the stage, carrying with him the bouquet.

PETER

I was presented with

this bouquet and felt

the very warm reception.

My first impression of

the conference arrangement

was stunning!

After he has spoken for awhile, he draws the participants' attention to the bouquet.

PETER (Cont'd)

If you want to make an

instant difference of your

trade mark, consider

using smell to give the

first good impression!

After Peter's presentation, the guest goes up to the stage to speak, using pptx to assist his presentation.

PETER (V.O.)

He was formerly a

director of Japan's

7-11.

The guest speaks through the interpreter.

GUEST

Objectively speaking,

the taste of the food

remains the same,

but people's preference

gradually change over

time.

The participants look enlightened.

PETER (V.O.)

It's natural that our

excitement and delight

wane over time.

Pausing.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

Minds are like flowers.

They open when the time

is right.

INT. HALL - NIGHT

Dim light. Party setting. At the entrance, a STAFF (20s), having lots of roses with her, presents one rose to Peter.

PETER

Is every one getting one?

STAFF

No. Only for the gentlemen.

Then, we hear: Are you Mr Peter Cheung?

Turning his head, Peter sees a very pleasant and earnest WOMAN (20s) with a very joyful smile.

WOMAN

(Like a fan)

Can we get connected?

PETER

(Phone in hand) Yes, and you're...

She begins to find her phone's QR code.

PETER (Cont'd)

Let's take a photo

together and I'll send

it over to you when

connected.

After taking a selfie together and scanning codes, Peter sends the photo.

WOMAN

(Seeing the image)

I love it.

PETER

(Rose in hand)

If I may also present

this flower gift to you.

The woman smiles from her heart.

PETER (V.O.)

Flower does connect

people.

EXT. GARDEN - DAY

Snowing. Peter is taken selfies with the bouquet in his arm.

PETER (V.O.)

Since retirement, I've

been touched with the

beauty of flowers. Since

they've been cut, I'd

like to do justice to them.

INT. HOTEL - DAY

Lift. Peter takes selfies - him with the bouquet.

Hall. A GENTLEMAN (40s) sees Peter.

GENTLEMAN

Peter, you carry your

bouquet everywhere.

Peter nods.

PETER (V.O.)

Should I mind?

INT. WORKSHOP - DAY

Corridor. Peter with the bouquet in his arm speaks to the lady.

PETER

I couldn't bring the

bouquet back to

Hong Kong. I felt

your warm reception

and I should like you

to keep it when I've

to leave.

The lady nods.

PETER (V.O.)

People like to share

something they very

like. She must love

flowers. The bouquet

has served its purpose

to connect people. I

couldn't bear to dump

it.

INT. BEIJING INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT - DAY

Man's room. Peter is changing inside a water closet. Feeling something bulky in his jacket pocket, he takes it out. It's a red rose VIP badge.

PETER (V.O.)

The rose has turned

black.

As Peter examines the rose petals, they easily fall apart. Peter throws them into the toilet one by one.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

They even make the

toilet look good... Anyway,

the rose has its purpose by

bringing joy and energy in

me!

FADE OUT. The End
