FADE IN.
INT. TRANSPORT DEPARTMENT - DAY
Long queues. PETER approaches a counter.
PETER
Can I have a form for
renewal of car registration
licence please?
Passing him a form, a female STAFF (50s) is about to say something.
STAFF
If you're a senior citizen,
you can queue at the
shorter queue.
PETER (V.O.)
I look old.
FLASHBACK
INT. HOTEL RESTAURANT, BEIJING - DAY
A WOMAN (30s) chats with Peter, observing him at the same time..
WOMAN
Are you around 70?
PETER
(Surprised)
Not as yet. I'm 65.
The woman observes Peter again.
PETER (V.O.)
She's young. Or may
be I sound too wise!
END FLASHBACK
EXT. SWIMMING POOL - DAY
Peter uses one of the privileged gates. The gatekeeper doesn't wink an eye.
PETER (V.O.)
Yes, I look old.
INT. SWIMMING POOL - DAY
Peter does push-ups.
PETER (V.O.)
I do 70 times each
time.
Peter swims from wall to wall.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd) I do 1000 meters -
100 meters for 10
years of my life, and
I'm investing to enjoy
100 years.
EXT. ROAD - DAY
Phone in hand, Peter sees a notification: How is Kyoto to tourism?
PETER (V.O.)
Yes, my wife and I love
to go to Kyoto to see
cherry blossoms, often
during the Easter
holidays.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd) This year the timing
isn't right. But yesterday,
I've made up my mind
to explore cherry blossoms
in Kyushu in late March.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Let me insert a Kyoto
photo in replying to the
question.
Peter swipes the phone screen. He sees an image of feet in water and a remark: you were here 6 days ago.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Yes, 6 days ago I was
in Ginzan Onsen. I felt
so leisurely there that
I put my feet in a street
onsen for the first time.
I enjoyed the moment
then and have the fond
memory now.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Since X'mas, I have
resumed my daily 1-km
swimming.
Peter then finds and taps an image of cherry blossoms and begins to type.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
My message in my
answer is that: don't
miss the opportunity
of doing something
we want to do, as
our lives are just as as fleeting as cherry
blossoms.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Although people don't
know how I feel, I
certainly look old to
them. But I can still
drive...
Peter stops in front of the traffic lights.
FADE OUT. The End
