FADE IN.
EXT. CHARTER GARDEN - DAY
PETER hears some rock and roll music from a distance.
PETER (V.O.)
It's Elvis' Jailhouse Rock...
Peter sees an OLD MAN (70s) sitting near a fountain with a cassette recorder touching his ear.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
He must have some
hearing problems. Surely,
he has music to his ears.
EXT. QUEENSWAY PLAZA - DAY
Carrying a large gift pack, Peter has it bumped onto the leg of a MAN (30s) with a KID (2) in his arms.
PETER (V.O.)
(Apologetically)
Sorry!
The man with his back to Peter doesn't take note of that.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
(Louder)
Sorry!
The man hears and responds politely.
MAN
Sorry Sir...
PETER (V.O.)
(Observing the man)
He doesn't have to
say sorry at all! He's
so polite. It looks
his family is visiting
Hong Kong.
As soon as he turns his head and continues walking, Peter sees a LADY (20s) walking in his opposite direction.
LADY
Sorry.
PETER
Sorry.
They've sufficient room to walk pass each other.
INT. TRANSPORT DEPARTMENT, KWUN TONG - DAY
Standing at the end of a long and winding queue, Peter checks his phone time.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
It's 4.20pm. Let me see
how long I've to wait.
A beat. At the front of the queue, Peter checks the time again.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
It's an hour's wait.
The next moment, Peter presents some papers to the counter STAFF (20s) who checks them and then takes a resentful look at Peter.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd) Why did she look at me
in such a way?
The Staff then points at the signature part of a form.
STAFF
The signature doesn't tally
with the one on the Vehicle
Registration Document. Go
home and ask the owner to
sign it!
Peter is surprised.
PETER
The signature on the form
is my signature. I've been
authorised to apply on
behalf of the owner.
STAFF
(Enlightened)
Have you been authorised?
As the staff reads the papers again, she sees a letter of authorization and then proceeds with the routine.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
She's processing such
applications all the time.
So careless. If I'm not
a lawyer but just an old
man, I might have follow
the official instruction...
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Not a word of sorry to
the old man though...
FLASHBACK
EXT. CHARTER GARDEN - DAY
Peter walks towards the old man.
PETER (V.O.)
I should like to document
what I've seen now. I
always try to avoid filming
somebody in my photo.
I wouldn't make any
apology on this occasion
as he's totally emerged in
the music...
After taking a photo, Peter checks it right away at the spot.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
(Pleased)
This one should serve
my purpose as I don't
want to identify the
person.
END FLASHBACK
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Elvis was my teenage
idol too. I also watched
his films in addition to
listening and singing
his songs...
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Would the old man also
listen to Elton John's
numbers including -
"Sorry Seems To Be
The Hardest Word
To Say"?
Peter smiles.
FADE OUT.
The End
