Act 1
INT. STUDY - 06:30
PETER is reading a thick book.
PETER (V.O.): No preparation is ever enough.
EXT. MTR CABIN - 08:00
Dressed in a black suit, Peter sees snow cover images on screen.
PETER (V.O.): Oh, our elder daughter is enjoying snowing in Kusatu.
Peter stares at the images.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I feel like having an embodied experience.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Few could embody my emotions now.
Act 2
INT. PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE - 09:15
Files and papers on a desk, Peter is instructing a STAFF.
PETER: I got the file yesterday afternoon.
STAFF: So late?
PETER: Yes. Please copy three sets of this photo album for me.
A COUNSEL intervenes curiously.
COUNSEL: Is that a PDD case?
PETER: Yes, possession of dangerous drugs.
COUNSEL: Oh, I was meant to prosecute it today. But my other case was part-heard yesterday.
PETER: Oh, I see. Your Admitted Facts is very well drafted.
COUNSEL: Actually, my 1st case after "baby fiat".
PETER: I work in retirement, relearning via trial and error.
COUNSEL: Can I ask you something...
PETER (V.O.): I was like that when I resumed prosecuting after a lapse of 32 years.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): One can't learn practice in the books.
EXT. THAI RESTAURANT - 13:30
Sitting next to a doorway, Peter is having screen time.
PETER (V.O.): Just then I've had very nice seafood fried noodles.
As Peter scrolls down the screen, we see an image of a bowl of ramen noodles.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): When our daughter checked in the la Vista hot spring resort in Kusatu, I reminded her to check if the complimentary late-night ramen noodles were available.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Later, she sent us the image. It looked the same as the ones my wife and I had whenever we checked in with the Dormy Inn chain hotels.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): We haven't had that for over two years now.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Just looking at the image, I feel I can smell and taste it.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Am I having a disembodied travelling experience?
Scrolling down the screen further, Peter sees a remark on the hot spring and snow cover images.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Oh, my wife plans to go to Susatu in 2024? Why not next year!
Scrolling down even further, Peter sees an image of a train carriage with the destination design: Ueno.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Oh Ueno! Our elder daughter is going back to Tokyo.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The last time I rowed a boat in the lake in Ueno-Koen was Jan 2020.
Peter checks the time.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Back to court.
Act 3
EXT. MTR CABIN - 17:00
Checking a What'sApp message, Peter sees: finally home.
'PETER (V.O): You're still around 3000km away from home.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): But life is like a trip and new experience stretches minds.
INT. STUDY - 23:30
Peter is checking scenic images on his smartphone screen.
PETER (V.O.): I should travel more while I still can. Let me prepare again.
