  1. FADE IN

  2. Act 1

  3. INT. BEDROOM - 22:15

  4. PETER lies in bed, propped up on pillows. Holding a phone, his finger slowly swiping through photos. We see photos of him and his wife in a flight simulator cockpit.

  5.  PETER (V.O.): Changi. The highlight. Just before our departure.

  6. His eyes linger on the screen.

  7.

  8. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I always loved the film. Those Magnificient Men in Their Flying Machines. The absurdity, the courage, the sheer joy of it.

  9. Recalling.

  10. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The leading man flew a Bristol Boxkite. A beautiful fragile thing. A model of it suspended from the ceiling of the Hong Kong Airport Terminal 1. I dreamt of flying it,

  11. A faint nostalgic smile touches his lips.

  12. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): It was my wife's idea, of course. She's always the one to push boundaries. Her first job was assisting air traffic contral at Kai Tak.

  13. Act 2

  14. FLASHBACK

  15. INT. LIVING ROOM - DAY (Summer 2025)

  16. Peter and his wife are chatting with their SON.

  17. PETER: You termiated your contract with the Sydney hospital months beforehand...

  18. SON: Yes, I spent time in the flying school.

  19. WIFE: Did you fly solo?

  20. SON: Cross-country. A few times. Actually, I've got my private pilot licence, A Cessna 172.

  21. PETER: Wow, a dream come true!

  22. WIFE: Did you take your girlfriend up?

  23. SON: Yes, she was at the back.

  24. WIFE: I'd love to try it. I used to guide them in, now I want to see what is it like on the other side of the radio.

  25. PETER: You're a retiree...

  26. WIFE: So I've the time to learn.

  27. SON: You should.

  28. PETER (V.O.): The closest I ever got to aviation was specializing in Air and Space Law.

  29. INT. FLIGHT SIMULATION CENTRE, CHANGI AIRPORT - 16:20 (3 Oct, 2026)

  30. Peter's wife is already in the pilot seat. The INSTRUCTOR sits beside her. Peter watches from behind.

  31. INSTRUCTOR: You have your yoke, your throttle, and your pedals. The pedels control the rudder for steering on the ground.

  32. WIFE: Right. Pedels.

  33. She pushes the throttle forward. The engine roars. The stimulated runway stretches out before her. She presses the right pedal.

  34. PETER: Oh, the plane veers sharply.

  35. She overcorrects with the left. The plane swerves, its wing clipping the runway.

  36. INSTRUCTOR: Gently, gentle inputs. Just the pedals.

  37. WIFE: I'm being gentle!

  38. She inadvertently stomps on the pedals. The plane slips off the tarmac entirely, bumping the grass. On the screen, the nose pitches up.

  39. WIFE (Cont'd): It's in the air! Okay, now this...

  40. She grabs the yoke and turns it sharply, like a steering wheel in a car.

  41. INSTRUCTOR: No, that's the ailerons...!

  42. The plane banks violently. A stall warning blares. The screen spins. Crash,

  43. INSTRUCTOR: Let's try that again.

  44. His wife tries again. We see the plane veering off the runway...the plane stalling and crashing. Peter watches with intense concentration. Soon, her wife throws her hands up.

  45. WIFE: Your turn. You should be good, learning from my mistakes.

  46. He takes off slowly, deliberately, with gentle pressures on the pedals. The plane lifts off smoothly. He flies for a few minutes, getting a feel of it. He banks smoothly, keeping the nose level. The runway grows larger on the screen.

  47. INSTRUCTOR: You're about to land. Reduce power. Flaps to 10 degrees. Airspeed at 70 knots.

  48. The plane descends. But the engines sputter and die. The screen flashes with engine failure warnings.

  49. INSTRUCTOR: Just glide her in! Best you can!...Oh, you're too low, too fast.

  50. Peter pushes back on the yoke at the last second. The plane hits the runway hard. The simulation shakes violently, the plane bounces high in the air, then slams down again. It skids to a halt, jumping up and down before finally come to rest.

  51. RETURN TO PRESENT

  52. Act 3

  53. INT. BEDROOM -22:45

  54. Peter uploads a photo to a draft on his laptop. It shows a flight experience setup designed to practice final approach as indicated by the runway view and target gate displayed on the cockpit screens next to the promotional sign.

  55. PETER (V.O.): Some dreams land softly. Some bounce. Some never touch down at all. The trick is to keep flying the approach.

  56. Thinking.

  57. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Taking off is hope. Cruising is habit. The final approach is truth. Our urge to learn how to fly has dissipated.

  58. Reflecting.

  59.

  60. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The final approach is the most dangerous part of flight - and the most beautiful part of life.

  61. The END
