PETER (V.O.): Someone asked me how could she grow her intrinsic motivation?

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Intrinsic motivation is defined as the doing of an activity for the inherent satisfaction rather than for some separate consequence.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I'm only interested in people doing an activity, manifesting the activity's intrinsic or extrinsic value.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): For example, buying diamonds can be for investment. Wearing diamonds to show off creates extrinsic value.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Intrinsic motivation sounds analytical but new to me.

FLASHBACK
INT. LIFT LOBBY - 08:40
People takes a look of a reception STAFF.
PETER (V.O.): He's a substitute. I wasn't greeted as usual.
INT. CASTLE PEAK, NT - 09:40
Immigration centre. Secured environment. Peter and INTERPRETER#1 meet their CLIENT, who is wearing an I-LOVE-HONG KONG T-shirt.
PETER (V.O.): I'm helping my client to seek political asylum to stay in Hong Kong, China.
Later, an OFFICER interviews Peter's CLIENT with the assistance of INTERPRETER#2, Peter intervenes when the interview is about to end.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I want my client to put her case better.
As the interview ends, Peter leaves the centre with the Officer and Interpreter#2.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): We all get paid to do the job.
EXT. CAFETERIA BEACH, NT - 11:30
Quiet. No-lifeguard warning signs. Peter is swimming,
PETER (V.O.): The water quality here is good - very different from the Bay's name.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I'm not tired of swimming in the sea. Doing exercises has intrinsic value.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): As a pensioner, the longer I live, the longer I get paid. So my swimming hobby has extrinsic value too.
INT. STUDY - 13:00-15:00
Behind his computer, Peter works hard.
PETER (V.O.): I quite like the assignments as they are IP-related, I've full autonomy, and everything is done online.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I'm paid in US dollars too.
INT. MALL - 16:45
Elegant Chinese restaurant. Dumplings are put on the table.
PETER (V.O.): Well, time to reward myself.
Swimming-gear store. While Peter is checking stuff on display, a SALES REPRESENTATIVE approaches Peter.
SALES REPRESENTATIVE: Wanna get a new credit card in 15 minutes? You'll get a $50 gift coupon!
PETER (V.O.): I can earn $50 in 2 minutes. Since he's proactive, I'd support him.
Peter passes his identify card to let the Sales Representative fill in some particulars on a pad.
SALES REPRESENTATIVE: You've retired, right?
PETER (V.O.): People can tell by my look.
Peter nods unwillingly.
INT. LIFE LOBBY - 19:10
Peter checks the reception.
PETER (V.O.): The same substitute. Ah, he works a 12-hour shift.
RETURN TO PRESENT
Act 3
INT. STUDY - 22:30
Peter is working on his laptop.
PETER (V.O.): Creating something - like my writing of daily screenplays - may be due to intrinsic motivation.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): As to how to grow intrinsic motivation, my writing goal has been to challenge the limits of my creativity.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Having done hundreds of screenplays, I haven't exhausted my creativity yet. That grows my intrinsic motivation.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): As a copyright expert, I know my repertoires have extrinsic economic value.
Reflecting.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Whether my motivation is intrinsic or extrinsic, or both, I'll continue to create to score the hardest goal.
