Kaji: A Hot Dog

FADE IN.

Act 1

INT. SITTING ROOM - DAY

KAJI is relaxing on a sofa, as PETER appears.

PETER: "Kai, Kai?"

KAJI looks perplexed.

KAJI (V.O.): Going out so early? The pack leader doesn't have her breakfast yet...

The pack leader appears, helping Kaji to put on her harness.

KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): If you want to go out, I don't mind giving you all company.

Pausing.

KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): I understand them. And they always put me first.

Peter goes out with car keys in his hands.

ACT 2

EXT. ROADS - DAY

Kaji sits with the pack leader in the passenger seat. Peter drives.

PETER: Lower a bit of the window for her. She likes to sniff new smells.

Kaji isn't anxious to make a move.

KAJI (V.O.): The air outside is hot. I prefer the cold air blowing right in front of me.

EXT. PROMENADE, SAI KUNG - DAY

Sunny and colourful.

KAJI (V.O.): I don't need the sun to brighten my life.

Kaji's legs feel the ground.

KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Quite hot. I need to run.

Kaiji leads the pack leader and Peter, as she explores new spots and mingles with OTHERS.

EXT. RESTAURANT - DAY

Kaji, the pack leader and Peter settle down at a table.

KAJI (V.O.): I see. The pack leader and Peter want to have their tea here. I don't want to eat outside though.

Food is put on the table. Kaji isn't interested.

KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): It's hot sitting in the open. They're sweating. I'm panting too.

Panting.

KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Passers-by, particular the girls, wear very little. But I'm still wearing my fur.

Panting.

KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): And my shape is like the dachshund breed or sausage dog.

Pausing.

KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): I believe humans like to eat "hot dogs".

The pack leader passes some water to Kaji to drink.

KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): It's really hot here. And I need to keep cool.

Peter pays the bill.

KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Good, my ordeal is over. I didn't choose to come. Let's go.

Kaji leads the pack leader and Peter back to their car. Peter immediately turns on the air-conditioning.

KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): They do put me first. We shouldn't come here again in the afternoon. It isn't my cup of tea.

Kaji slows down her panting.

Act 3

EXT. PET GARDEN - DAY

Getting out of the car, Kaji is leading the pack leader and Peter.

KAJI (V.O.): They also understand me and love me unconditionally.

Kaji wastes no time to obey the calls of nature at her favourite grass spots.

KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): What a relief.

Both the pack leader and Peter look relieved too.

A FRIEND is getting excited with Kaji, but is prevented by his CARER (20s) from engaging her.

KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): I know why: I'm such a hot dog!

They leave the garden, leaving the poor friend disappointed.
