FADE IN.
Act 1
INT. SITTING ROOM - DAY
KAJI hears something.
KAJI (V.O.): I believe the pack leader is coming back.
The PACK LEADER enters carrying some McDonalds' bags.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Oh, I might have pancakes. Earlier, Peter shares his breakfast with me.
Kaji jumps up to sit on a chair as the pack leader puts food on the table.
Joining them, PETER picks up a hash brown and eats it as Kaji begs with her eyes.
PETER: No!
FLASHBACK
INT. SITTING ROOM - DAY (Earlier)
As Peter throws bits of brown bread in the air, Kaji jumps up to catch and eat them. When she misses, she'll follow through relentlessly.
PETER: Last one!
KAJI (V.O.): Got it. I've had quite a lot already.
Catching and eating the last one, Kaji looks and walks away, checking if there's any left behind on the floor.
END FLASHBACK
Getting the message, Kaji turns to look at the pack leader who is cutting a pancake into small pieces. Peter picks up one and gives it to Kaji.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): You aren't unkind after all.
Act 2
INT. SITTING ROOM - CONTINOUS
PETER (To Pack Leader): Our baby has to be rewarded. She behaves well, keeping us company during your breakfast time.
PACK LEADER: She's actually after the food!
KAJI (V.O.): True, I'm motivated by food, like humans.
Pausing.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): I know that if I sit on the table chair, I would be rewarded with food after a while.
Pausing.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): It's through such successive approximations that I learn. My behaviour is so shaped too.
PACK LEADER (To Peter): Did she go to bed with us last night?
PETER: No.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): I was sleeping on the sofa in the sitting room...
FLASHBACK
INT. SITTING ROOM - NIGHT
Kaji sees the pack leader coming back from the study, wearing gloves.
KAJI (V.O.): I can smell the strong odor of bleach! She behaves like a cleaning lady these days.
Pausing.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): She works much harder than our maid in cleaning places. But what's happening?
Pausing.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): I haven't seen other gang members for ages. Where have they gone?
Pondering.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Is someone coming home soon?
Daydreaming.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): I like that as I'll have more treat varieties.
Thinking.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Although the bleach odor causes me no pain now, I feel the odor is at best unpleasant and at worst toxic.
Pausing.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Anyway, the smell that the pack leader is wearing isn't good. So, I had better sleep away from them.
END FLASHBACK
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Oh, the pack leader doesn't know she's smelly. What if the bleach smell impacts adversely on my health? Distancing is good for me.
Pausing.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Doesn't the pack leader care about my wellbeing like a mother? Unlike cats, I've only one life.
Kaji looks away as if she's an outsider.
Act 3
INT. SITTING ROOM - DAY
On the table, only one small piece of the pancake is left.
PACK LEADER (Picking it up): Last one!
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): So very few?
PACK LEADER: You understand?
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Yes, of course,
Kaji gets the last piece uneventfully.
PACK LEADER: Finished!
Immediately, Kaji gets off of her seat, while the pack leader hasn't made a move.
PACK LEADER: You're really practical!
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Why shouldn't I? I'm motivated by my survival instinct.
Pausing.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): I wouldn't mind having less food during meal times if I can have more treats like pancakes anytime.
Pausing.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Yes, I like pancakes.
FADE OUT.
THE END
