Act 1
INT. HOME - MORNING
Sunlight bathes a dining table. A fresh loaf of bread sits in the center. KAJI sits like a fluffy loaf at one end. Across from her is PETER.
KAJI (V.O.): The warm scent hits my nose. Irresistible.
His eyes track PETER.
KAJI (V.O.): He's going to tear a chunk of the bread - for me.
Peter holds out the chunk. Kaji takes it from his fingers. She chews.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Soft inside. Superior to kibble in every possible way.
Her eyes in bliss. Repeats. Kaji stares at the remaining loaf with unblinking intensity.
PETER: Last one.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): I can see that.
Act 2
INT. HOME - AFTERNOON
Kaji stares at the door.
KAJI (V.O.): They left. Again.
She sniffs the air and walks to the massage chair. She jumps up. Curls into a tight roll.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): The chair hums when they sit. Now it's still. Good enough.
Her eyes close.
Later, sunlight shifts. Kaji opens her eyes.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): The Chair is boring now.
Kajis jumps down the chair carefully. She stretches - front paws out, butt up.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Let me move to the sofa.
On the sofa, Kaji switches positions.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Nothing happens. Nothing needs to happen.
Later. we hear jingle of keys. Kaji's ears shoot up.
The door opens. The Pack Leader and Peter step inside, bags in hand.
Kaji explodes off the sofa. Front paw on Peter's shins.
PACK LEADER: How about me? Did you sleep all day?
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Yes. It's glorious.
PACK LEADER (Cont'd): Don't you want to go to the riverside park?
Kaji performs the ritual.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Now walk me.
EXT. RIVERSIDE PARK - EVENING
Golden light on the water. Kaji sniffs a bush. Then squats. Relieves herself with profound concentration.
As the Pack Leader clears the mess with a bag, Kaji spots a bird. It perks at the grass.
KAJI (V.O.): Mine.
Kaji drops low. Stalks. Pause. Bounce.
The bird launches into air a few meters before she arrives. Kaji skids to a stop. Looks up.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Tough luck.
Peter smiles in a distance.
Then a STRANGER approaches. Kneels slowly. Kaji stares at him.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): You didn't see my setback. Didn't you?
Pausing.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): The chase isn't for the catching. The chase is for the glorious belief that I might.
The stranger pats Kaji's head.
STRANGER: How cute!
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Fine. I accept this consolation.
PETER: Thank you.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Life balances its scales in strange ways.
Act 3
INT. HOME - NIGHT
Dinner plates clink. Kaji sits with the Pack Leader and the GANG.
KAJI (V.O.): Some think a day is made of great things.
Kaji stares at the Pack Leader.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): But my day is the chair, the sofa and the bird that got away.
Kaji takes a look of Peter.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): A life's meaning is found in ordinary rhythm, not its drama.
