INT. SLEEPING ROOM - EARLY MORNING
It's before 6.am. PETER rows over in bed to check the time.
PETER (V.O): I woke up before 5.am yesterday, Jan 6, 2021. I made myself better prepared and make the most of the day in court.
After doing his morning routine, Peter returns to bed.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I've nothing urgent to do.
Peter sleeps again.
INT. SLEEPING ROOM - LATER
It's after 8.25am. Peter wakes up again.
PETER (V.O.): Just then, I've had a strange dream - Hong Kong snows.
Checking the time, Peter & the family pet Kaji, get out of bed.
Act 2
INT. STUDY - LATER
Turning on TV, Peter watches breaking news.
PETER (V.O.): It seems that something new is happening in US.
On screen, we see moving images of people tearing down barricades, damaging property and firing shots.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The scene isn't that dissimilar from what the legislature of Hong Kong, China, experienced on July 1, 2018.
On screen, we see uniformed police trying hard to stop the violence and keep order.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Oh, it has become really people's house.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Were the mobs incited?
On screen, we see the subtitles:..to march on the Capital.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Did the acts of the mobs in Hong Kong mobs have any impact on them?
On screen, CHARACTERS speak in turn. We hear:...incitement...not protest...riots...not dissent...disorder...chaos...domestic terrorism...sedition...insurrection...
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): But they don't say the US mobs are fighting for their freedom and democracy - unlike their usual remarks on Hong Kong unrest 2018.
On screen, a MAN is being interviewed:...security failure...heart breaking...it must be investigated...
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): True.
On screen, we see a CONGRESSWOMAN speaking: ...there must be consequences...people should be held responsible...
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Will the radicalised mobs and those subscribed to their values be tolerated in US?
On screen, we hear an Anchor reporting :..resigning...can't stay...
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): That's a honourable way to bow out.
On screen, an Anchor, reporting that 4 are killed in the clashes.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): To make the most of what they want, the dead have paid their ultimate price.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): For them, nothing matter anymore.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): For US, Jan 6, 2021 is a new day, an important day in history.
On screen, we hear an Anchor interviewing SOMEBODY: What will happen in the next 13 days?...pardons...disgraceful end...the world is watching...dark moment...
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Whether it's the best of times or the worst of times, it's the only time that people living now has got.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): It's a new tale of two cities.
Act 3
INT. STUDY - CONTINUOUS
The TV continues to report other stories.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): No more news stories about Hong Kong, China?
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): The arrest of 53 activists in Hong Kong, China, on Jan 6, 2021 doesn't matter anymore. The US drama has more news value.
INT. CHAMBERS - NIGHT
Peter puts some files inside a brief case.
PETER (V.O.): As my part-heard case won't be heard before 11.00am tomorrow, I've suddenly got an additional hearing to attend at 9:30am, making the most of my availability.
Peter leaves.
INT. SLEEPING ROOM - NIGHT
In bed, Peter is listening to music.
PETER (V.O.): People have only one life. Some might want to make the most of it.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): They might discard institutional values to achieve their egoistic goals.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): As I can dream of Hong Kong snowing, others can dream of a US monarchy.
Peter goes to bed, smiling.
