Act 1
INT. SITTING ROOM - DAY
Phone in hand, PETER reads a notification.
PETER (V.O.): Oh my god! Someone has translated into Spanish my Quora answer on when the world will stabilize after CONVID-19 ends.
Peter reads the Spanish translation.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): My Quora answers are always concise and precise, pointing out the way ahead. If I didn't write the original, I won't have any clue of this Spanish version.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Now, I can guess or compare my orignal words and phrases with the Spanish ones. Eg mi perspectiva anecdotica means my anecdotal opinion.
Smiling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): It's a surreal experience. I feel like I'm also a Spaniard.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Emotions like this keep me going... See if there're any other questions that I'd like to answer.
Act 2
INT. SITTING ROOM - CONTINUOUS
Peter scrolls down his phone screen.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Here's a question I don't like but would like to answer.
We see on the screen: What are some unique ways to pass the time during quarantine?
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Let me show him the way.
We see texts appearing on screen: Try to engage in intensive intellectual activities, to uplift oneself, connect with nature and deliver societal value.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): He has all the time in the world and just wants to pass it.
We see further texts appearing on screen: Think about the concept of time. How real is it? How does it relate to life? Should one just pass it. Learn some philsophy.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Yes, learn some philosophy is a unique way.
After tapping Submit, Peter checks other notifications.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Here's a moral question: Am I selfish to think about haircuts, pedicures, and adding fish to my fish tank during the pandemic?
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The question poser wants to understand more about herself and her relationship with others.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Simply doing what oneself wants in disregard of others is selfish. But how about just doing something for one's own benefit like the posner's thoughts. Would people regard that as morally wrong too?
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): At the other extreme are people who are selfless, like health workers during the pandemic, sacrificing themselves to support others. Must such altruistic acts moral? Would people just treat them as their own self-actualization?
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): How objective is humankind's moral standard?
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): What is humankind's life purpose, morally speaking?
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Isn' it objectively and morally right to advance oneself's wellbeing, reasonably and practically? A person isn't a robot. Otherwise, human beings won't be human.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Between selfishness and selflessness, there's a proportionate moral balance. For humankind to be virtuous ones, they should be other-regarding. They should expand themselves to include others.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Yes, that's my synthesis. So, apart from benefiting oneself, a person should also deliver societal values to others.
After tapping on his phone in the usual way, Peter checks something.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Hah! The reception to my suggestion to learn some philosophy isn't enthusiastic at all!
Peter takes a deep breath.
Act 3
INT. SITTING ROOM - NIGHT
Relaxing on a sofa, Peter is reading the subtitles to an image.
PETER (V.O.): I took that image and inserted it as part of my Quora answer that has been translated into Spanish. What is the meaning of "Muy por delente"?
Peter taps his phone to see the English version.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Ah yes! Way Ahead.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): People are fearful of the pandemic as they don't know what's to come.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I've made it clear that my opinion isn't necessarily true or reliable. But my opinion based on some research and available information still captures and delivers value for myself and others.
Reflecting.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): That's how I've expanded myself to include others in my reasonable, practical and moral way.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Yes, that's the way ahead - Muy por delente!
FADE OUT.
THE END
