  1. FADE IN

  2. Act 1

  3. EXT. LUNG MEI BEACH - 15:00 (1 July, 2026)

  4. An artificial strip. A lot of PEOPLE. CHILDREN shrieking. PARENTS shouting. PETER stands at the entrance, swim bag slung over one shoulder.

  5. PETER (V.O.): First time here...so different from the beaches that I've visited.

  6. He looks around and sees a banner: Warning: Jelly fish and sea urchins present.

  7. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): That's not comforting.

  8. He scans the water in the swimming area.

  9. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): So murky.

  10. He drops his swim bag onto a patch of sand and kicks off his slippers.

  11. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): First time. Last time. Might as well make it count.

  12. He wades in, reaches the boundary rope, treads water. Then, toward the shore, he launches butterfly.

  13. Arms slice forward in unison. Dolphin kicks drives him through the water. His back arches, muscles stretching and contracting with each powerful stroke.

  14. Act 2

  15. INT. LIVING ROOM/BATHROOM - 18:00

  16. Peter presses a hand on his back. He settles into a massage chair. He presses START on the control. The chair whirs to life. Rollers travel up and down his spine. Vibrating. The session ends.

  17.  PETER (V.O.): It can't fix my backache.

  18. Peter stands up, walks stiffly to the bathroom, pulls out a bottle of Ammeltz liquid. He lifts his T-shirt, reaches behind, and applies the rubbing mouth of the bottle onto his ache spot.

  19. EXT. SILVERSTRAND BAY - 12:30 (July 2. 2026)

  20.  Wind whips across the clear water. Choppy waves roll in. On the shore, a red flag snaps violently on its pole. Peter straps a bright green tow buoy around his waist.

  21. PETER (V.O.): Makes the job of the lifeguards easier, just in case.

  22. Soon, Peter swims past the two floating platforms.

  23. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I'll see if I can float on my back on choppy waters.

  24. Later, on his final stretch toward the beach, he slips into butterfly.

  25. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Due to the tow buoy, I'm slower than I used to be.

  26. He reaches the shore, gasping, chest heaving. He stands, hands on knees, catching his breath.

  27. INT. CONSULTATION ROOM - 16:00

  28. Peter enters, Dr LAM looks up.

  29. PETER: Hi Dr Lam, it's really good to visit you once in 20 weeks...I've got an aching back since yesterday.

  30. Pausing.

  31. PETER (Cont'd): I swim every day - it's my ritual to finish my session by launching into butterfly to close out the routine.

  32. DR LAM: When you throw that butterfly, you're overloading your muscles, tearing them apart.

  33. PETER: So? Am I falling apart?

  34. DR LAM: Actually? You're building.

  35. Peter looks curious.

  36. DR LAM (Cont'd): When you exert or expand those back muscles to swim butterfly, you tear the existing fibres to gain more muscle.

  37. Peter appears to understand.

  38. DR LAM: Microscopic breakdown. Then repair. Then growth. Literally - no pain, no gain.

  39. PETER: So I hurt because I grew.

  40. DR LAM: Yes, but the gain only works if you survive to recover... you might not have the strength to swim back to the shore,

  41. PETER: I can float.

  42. Dr Lam is half-concerned.

  43. PETER (Cont'd): On my back. Seawater's buoyant enough - even for an old bag of bones like me.

  44. Pausing.

  45. PETER (Cont'd): I tilt my face up, spread my arms, and just breathe...

  46. Dr Lam is half-amused.

  47. PETER (Cont'd): I enjoy that more than lying on floating platforms.

  48. PETER (V.O.): So the next time I float on my back out there - staring at the clouds, feeling the ache - I know it's not breaking. It's...earning.

  49. Pausing.

  50. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): All this time, I thought pain was the price of doing something wrong, Turns out, it's the price of doing something right. The downpayment on a stronger tomorrow.

  51. Act 3

  52. INT. BEDROOM - 22:30

  53. Peter uploads an image of Lung Mei Beach to a draft on his laptop. It shows a crowded beach with colourful umbrellas sitting under dramatic cloudy skies, with sailboats anchored offshore and mountains along the distant shoreline.

  54. PETER (V.O.): My back doesn't ache because I'm broken. It aches because I ask it to be more than it was yesterday.

  55. Thinking.

  56. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): At 72, pain isn't punishment. It's a privilege. It means I'm still in the game.

  57. Reflecting.

  58. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I don't swim to escape the pain. I swim to prove the pain isn't the end - it's the beginning of something stronger.

  59.  The END
