The Finite Infinity

FADE IN
Act 1
EXT. SILVERSTRAND BAY - 17:20
The sun hangs low, casting a warm amber glow across the gentle waves. PETER wades into the water and launches into a steady breaststroke.
PETER (V.O.): The water is clear.
He reaches the outer edge of the swimming area. He pauses, treading water.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): It's my practise to switch to freestyle from here.
He then swims freestyle along a line of orange buoys. The only sounds are his breath and his hands entering the water. He swims the length, turns and begins his return.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Backstroke now.
His body is long and straight. Halfway back to shore, he stops. He floats on his back. His arms and legs spread wide. The water holds him.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I'm weighless. Ageless.
His mind drifts.
Act 2
FLASHBACK
INT. NAVIGATOR'S CLUB, DISNEY ADVENTURE - 17:30 (28 Sept, 2026)
Classic. Luxury liner-themed. Peter and his WIFE sit at a table for six. They're joined by two other couples from Hong Kong, MR and MRS CHEUK and MR and MRS CHUNG. The conversations flow easily.
MR and MRS CHEUK: We checked in early and have explored the ship.
MR and MRS CHUNG: We've chased some of the Disney characters.
PETER'S WIFE: We only know the whereabouts of our stateroom, the guest enquiry counter and this restaurant.
PETER: I'm looking forward to swimming on this cruise ship.
MRS CHEUK: The Sunny Pool at Deck 17 is crowded.
MRS CHUNG: The Wayfinder Bay at Deck 10 is just a dipping pool for the children.
MR CHECK: There's an Infinity Pool at Deck 17 Aft.
MR CHUNG: For adults only, I believe.
PETER: Sounds great! I'll explore the Infinity Pool in this 200,000+tons mega liner.
FLASHBACK UPON FLASHBACK
INT. STAR PISCES - DAY (2000)
Around 40,000 tons. Peter (46) and his wife are trying to soothe their crying SON (2).
PETER: I think he's seasick because of the rocking and rolling.
WIFE: Yes, that's why he hasn't stopped crying.
PETER: We should never have come.
WIFE: He's miserable. We're miserable.
END FLASHBACK UPON FLASHBACK
PETER (V.O.): That was the last time until now.
Peter looks at his wife.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): When my wife booked this one. For the characters, I supported it. I want to see if cruises could be different.
EXT. THE INFINITY POOL, DISNEY ADVENTURE - 11:30 (29 SEPT, 2026)
Peter, in a T-shirt and a swimming brief, enters the adult-only elegant pool area. He looks around with cautious curiosity. A bar serves cocktails, and there at the aft, is the Infinity Pool. His face falls.
PETER (V.O.): The "pool" is not a pool. It's a series of shallow sitting booths filled with water.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): They're designed for people to sit in, drink in hand, and gaze out at the ocean.
Peter examines the booths from every angle.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Between two booths, there's a narrow channel of water. A lane. It's about three meters in lengh, half-a-meter wide.
Peter stares at it.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): This is...this is it?
He looks for more. There's no more.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): This is the entirety of the Infinity Pool.
He sits on the edge of one of the booths, his legs dangling in the water. He watches a WOMAN in a booth next to him, reading a book quietly. He slides into the narrow lane.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Or I'll have no experience swimming in the Infinity Pool.
He stands in the lane, about a meter deep. He extends his arms in front of him, pointing them like a diver. Kicking gently, he glides forward. One meter, two meters, three meters. He reaches the end.
RETURN TO PRESENT
Act 3
INT. BEDROOM -22:15
Peter uploads a photo to a draft on his laptop. It shows bounded square pools framed by glowing lights and beams, offering a glimpse of infinity within finite spaces.
PETER (V.O.): The finite infinity is not a place. It's a feeling. It's the moment I realize I've accepted less than I deserve.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The Infinity Pool taught me something that the sea never could: that infinity can be faked. But the sea taught me something the Pool can never will: that infinity can also be real.
Reflecting.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The sea is infinite. The pool is finite. The finite infinity is a choice. I choose the sea.
