  1. FADE IN

  2. Act 1

  3. INT. BEDROOM - 20:45

  4. Cluttered. PETER's fingers hover his phone screen. On it is a photo via WhatsApp. It's a picture of his son, his daughter-in-law and their four-month-old baby. They're all smiling, their faces bright and full of life. Peter smiles.

  5. PETER (V.O.): They're a unit. A perfect picture.

  6. He begins to type: Great photo on a special day. Then, an emogi with the phrase and the drawing of a cut rose appears.

  7. PETER (V.O.): It's visually expressive.

  8. He taps it and hits send. Then, he recalls something.

  9. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Where's my travel phone?

  10. He grabs it, swipes the screen and his lock screen appears. It's the image of a woman wearing light-coloured traditional Hanfu sitting beside a body of water, with her head bowed and hands gathered together, holding her long, dark hair.

  11. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): My travel phone's has a blurry focus, giving the image an accidental aesthetic appeal.

  12. Peter looks from the lock screen photo to the happy family photo, and back again. His expression is unreadable.

  13.  Act 2

  14. FLASHBACK

  15. EXT. YOUGQING FANG, GUANGZHOU - 14:50 (2 August, 2026, Sunday)

  16. Traditional Chinese architecture. A persistent drizzle. The ancient square is bustling with TOURISTS. Peter, wearing a small package tour badge on his shirt, navigates through the crowd. He steps into an area facing the centre of the pond, where a stage sits in the middle.

  17. PETER (V.O.): I believe here's the place to watch the free Cantonese opera performance at 15:00.

  18.

  19. Peter joins the massive CROWD, including many young WOMEN in traditional Hanfu under overhangs. The air is thick with humidity and anticipation.

  20. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): It's still raining, and everyone is waiting, wanting to get the best spot for the show. Nobody has ventured out into the open yet.

  21. Peter takes a few photos with his phone camera. But his shots are cluttered with umbrellas and heads.

  22. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): It's highly improbable that I can take any nice photos here.

  23. Suddenly, he notices HER. A beautiful young woman in an elegant traditional Hankfu outfit.

  24. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): She looks determined.

  25. Ignoring the rain, she steps out from the crowd, past the protective umbrellas, and sits down on the wet stone edge at the water's very edge-a nice photo spot with the stage in the background.

  26. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Her sudden move catches her cameraman and assistants by surprise.

  27. The beautiful woman then runs her fingers through her long dark hair, preparing for the cameraman's perfect shot.

  28. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): While she's entirely focused on her task, those supporting her aren't ready yet.

  29. Without a second thought, Peter raises his phone camera. He doesn't wait for her to look. Peter captures his own shot.

  30. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Got an unrehearsed shot.

  31. Almost instantly, Peter watches the frame fill with umbrellas and STRANGERS.

  32. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): They ruin the pristine view. Even the woman's cameraman won't shoot her.

  33. And she blends into the umbrella-filled crowd at the place where she has just had a moment of apparent exclusivity. Peter checks his shot.

  34. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): A perfect, candid image.

  35. Staring at the shot.

  36. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Her beauty is unselfconscious, a moment in time.

  37. Pausing.

  38. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): She wasn't posing. She was just living. And that was the most beautiful thing she could do.

  39. Pausing.

  40. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): A photograph doesn't capture reality-it captures the one moment reality dared to be beautiful.

  41. Pausing.

  42. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): A stranger's hair in the rain could teach me more about peace than a lifetime looking for it.

  43. As we watch and listen, the Cantonese Opera performance starts right on stage.

  44. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): My wife never understood this. My monthly travels. She chose not to join me.

  45. Pausing.

  46. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): So I travel alone, paying the single supplement.

  47. Pausing.

  48. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The other tour members look at me with pity, or curiosity. A man of my age, travelling alone, taking photos of strangers.

  49. Pausing.

  50. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I think about it now...if I have been with a companion, would I have had the leisure? The patience? No, I wouldn't have the snapshot.

  52. RETURN TO PRESENT

  53. Act 3

  54. INT. BEDROOM -22:00

  55. Peter uploads an image to a draft on his laptop. It shows a woman wearing light-coloured traditional Hanfu sitting by a murky pond bordered by rocks and tiles, bowing her head to hold her long dark hair.

  56. PETER (V.O.): The family photo was a gift. The stranger's photo was a discovery. Both arrived at the same address: my heart.

  57. Thinking.

  58. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I didn't need to be in the picture. I was the frame-quietly holding everything beautiful that passed through me.

  59. Reflecting.

  60. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The frame of the moment is where I truly live.

  61. The END
