FADE IN
Act 1
INT. LIVING ROOM - 23:59 (Yesterday)
The clock is about to strike midnight. PETER opens a notebook.
PETER (V.O.): Today is filled with peculiar moments...
Peter begins to type.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I've committed to this ritual - a daily docudrama - an exercise of creative discipline and an archive of my thoughts and emotions.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Without a background in science and technology, I may not be able to innovate products or processes and apply for patents.
Typing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): But I can channel my intellectual efforts into creating original works, such as my screenplays.
Typing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): And daybreak will bring new challenges and fresh stories to share.
Act 2
INT. HKCEC - 14:30
Banners for the "15th Business of IP Asia Forum" hang prominently. The main hall is packed. Peter finds a seat. Soon, the SECRETARY for Commerce and Economic Development speaks.
SECRETARY: ...the sandbox...an environment where innovators, bankers, and regulators will work side by side...
PETER (V.O.): Do it for real...
SECRETARY (Cont'd): ...to make Hong Kong a regional IP trading hub and an innovation centre...
PETER (V.O.): The phrase "IP Trading Hub" always lands on me with palpable weight.
Peter sits perfectly still.
FLASHBACK
INT. CONFERENCE ROOM - DAY (2011)
Peter (57), at a similar forum podium, gestures to a slde titled: Hong Kong: An International IP Trading Hub.
PETER: We need to foster the entire ecosystem - innovators/creators, valuers, financiers, insurers to see IP not just as a legal right, but as a tradable asset class!
Peter's passion is evident.
PETER (Cont'd): Hong Kong isn't just a legal gateway. Hong Kong must become the marketplace.
A ripple of excited murmurs.
RETURN TO PRESENT
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I aimed high - an international rather than a regional IP Trading Hub.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I'd the vision and believed the necessary conditions were in place...
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): However, without support - especially financial support - I could only do my best during my tenure as Director of IP, Hong Kong, China.
Peter looks at the stage.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): A sandbox. That's new. That's stakeholders' action. I never got that far.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): A vision is just a sketch until someone builds a sandbox to test its foundations.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): They call it a sandbox. I call it a missing chapter.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Every great leap forward begins with a space to stumble. That is the profound simplicity of a sandbox.
A wry, thoughtful smile.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Prove the concept. That's all I ever wanted. For collaborative stakeholders to build the marketplace.
Pausing.
A vision is just a sketch until someone builds a sandbox to test its foundations. It'll be fascinating to see the results in two years.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Regarding Hong Kong's goal to become an innovation centre, my involvement in knowledge transfer matters at HKUST might have added strategic value. Otherwise, my contributions would be limited to the creative front.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The real innovation isn't in the technology alone, it's in the framework that allows it to be financed.
Act 3
INT. LIVING ROOM - 22:00
Peter uploads a photo featuring a vibrant exhibition space with a tram-themed display alongside a backdrop of a bustling city street to a draft on his laptop.
PETER (V.O.): A concept is a lonely thing until it finds its playground. Innovation fails in a vaccum. The sandbox exists to provide the pressure, the collaboration, and the oxygen for it to succeed.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): A sandbox is for building the tools that will build the future. It's the most valuable data point we can collect. We're testing trust between innovators and capitalists.
Reflecting.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The goal of the sandbox is simple: to turn IP into intellectual capital. My satisfaction isn't in having built it, but in seeing it built. The sandbox is the validation of faith.
