  3. Act 1

  4.

  5. INT. HOME - MORNING

  6. Sunlight cuts through a gap in the curtains. The room smells of sleep and warm cotton. KAJI sits perfectly still beside PETER's sleeping head.

  7. KAJI (V.O.): The light is correct. The smell is correct. The human is not.

  8. She watches him.

  9. KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): The protocol is simple. Three licks. No more. No less. He's a creature of habit. I'm the architect of those habits.

  10. Kaji leans in. She licks Peter's nose. Once. A gentle, deliberate tap. Peter's brow furrows.

  11. KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): One. He stirs. The engine is turning over.

  12. She licks again. Twice. A slightly firmer tap. Peter's eyes flutter.

  13. KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Two. He's conscious of the world. And of his duty.

  14. She licks a third time. Three. A definitive, wet tab. Peter groans. He opens his eyes.

  15. PETER: Okay, okay. I'm up. Bread run.

  16. Act 2

  17. INT. HOME - LATER

  18. Kaji waits at the front door. It opens. Peter enters, holding a transparant bag. The smell of yeast and sugar hits Kaji's nose like a wave.

  19. KAJI (V.O.): The bread has arrived. The morning is a success.

  20. Peter pulls out a golden-brown roll. He tears off a piece and holds it out. Kaji takes it without hesitation.

  21. KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Perfect clumb. Ideal sweetness. My human has performed admirably.

  22. Soon, they finish the whole bread.

  23. KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Now, the second phase of the morning. Play.

  24. Kaji trots to her toy basket. She selects a rope bone and brings it to Peter.

  25. PETER: You want to play?

  26. KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Don't ask me questions you already know the answer.

  27. Peter tosses it across the room. Kaji explodes after it, grabbing the rope bone and trotting back triumphantly. She notices Peter checking his phone.

  28. KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): This is the correct order of things. This is the morning performance. The bread. The play. And then...rest.

  29. Kaji walks to her stuff kennel, rests inside and looks out at Peter. He notices that.

  30. PETER: You'e resting in your kennel. You rarely use that.

  31.  KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): He doesn't understand. I'm making a point.

  32. Pausing.

  33. KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): The kennel is for a specific type of rest. The kind where I need to be left alone.

  34. INT. HOME - EVENING

  35. The front door opens. The sound of two sets of footsteps. The PACK LEADER and Peter enter. Kaji, who has been waiting by the door, spins in circles.

  36. KAJI (V.O.): The pack is reunited. But the evening routine is ... uncertain. There's a new smell on them. Excitement. Anticipation.

  37. The Pack Leader bends down and ruffles Kaji's fur.

  38. PACKLEADER: Good girl!

  39. KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): They're acting fast. I doubt if the riverside park is on the agenda.

  40. PACKLEADER (Cont'd): Any business?

  41. KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Business is the cue!

  42. The Pack Leader grabs the leash. Kaji's ears perk up.

  43. KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Ah, I was wrong. The park is happening. Excellent!

  44. EXT. RIVERSIDE PARK - CONTINUOUS

  45. The sky is orange and pink. Kaji trots on the lawn, sniffing with purpose. The Pack Leader and Peter walk behind her, talking in the fast, excited way.

  46. KAJI (V.O.): I sense urgency in my humans.

  47. She finds a suitable spot and does her business. She kicks her back legs triumphantly.

  48. PACK LEADER: Done. Let's head back.

  49. KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd):..homeward journey? This is incorrect.

  50. PACK LEADER (Cont'd):I need to prepare for the Sunday family dinner.

  51. KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Oh dear! No time for the good patch of grass.

  52. A STRANGER wants to engage Kaji. She ignores him outright.

  53.  Act 3

  54. INT. HOME - NIGHT

  55. Kaji sits beside the Pack Leader and Peter at the dining table, sharing desserts.

  56.   KAJI (V.O.): Three licks to morning - no more, no less. A dog's love is not vague. It's precise, punctual, and politely insistent.

  57. She licks the hands of the Pack Leader.

  58. KAJI (V.O.)(Cont'd): Routine isn't the enemy of romance. Ask any dog. Three licks to morning, every morning, is the most romantic thing in the world.

  59. Kaji glances at Peter.

  60. KAJI (V.O.)(Cont'd): Three licks to morning: a dog's entire value proposition - wake gently, ask clearly, love daily - compressed into a gesture too small for humans to notice and too important for them to live without.
