PETER sits on a sofa with a phone in hand. A sudden noise from the bedroom. His WIFE emerges fully dressed.
PETER: You woke up so early?
His wife is seaching for something.
WIFE: Where's my to-do list?
PETER: Where are you going?
WIFE: I need to prepare for tonight's party for my friends at our other apartment on the same floor.
PETER: Am I to join as well?
WIFE: Yes, at dinner time, around 7pm.
Peter nods.
Act 2
INT. OTHER APARTMENT - 19:00
A long dining table with two steaming hot pots. Laughter and chats fill the space.Peter joins and sits beside his wife among a lively group: AH BAAN (robust and cheerful), OLIVIA (listening intently). KAU MUI, RAYMOND, MONICA, EVA and KELVIN.
PETER (V.O.): Familiar faces, except Kelvin.
Ah Baan is in the middle of a story, using her chopsticks to emphasize her point.
AH BAAN: And there he was. A puppy, straying at the crossroads.
OLIVIA: Oh, poor thing.
AH BAAN: What was I to do? Leave him. I was just going to buy some tofu. I came back with a puppy! That was two months ago.
Peter nods.
AH BAAN (Cont'd): Now, he's the prince of the house. He energizes my five old dogs. They play with him, He has given them a new lease of life.
His wife spots Ah Baan has marks on her arms.
AH BAAN (Cont'd): I let him "bite" my arms. He also gives me a new lease of life.
Peter smiles.
PETER: It's a wonderful story. Ah Baan. It takes a special kind of heart to see a creature in need and say "yes" to the chaos. To the responsibility.
AH BAAN: Chaos is just energy, Peter! I wake up at 5:30 every morning. I do my qi gong, then a brisk walk. I tell my body: We're going to be healthy! We're going to keep up with these dogs!
PETER: Yes, you've to will it. From a subatmoic level, there's no solid matter. Just eneregy and probability. And biology backs it up, the body is a dynamic system, constantly renewing itself,
MONICA: Sounds mysterious...
PETER: One's will, one's intention...is a form of energy that can influence that system. One can actively shapes one's reality.
OLIVIA: Ah Baan, you're my role model. You've such a zest. I want to be like you.
Everyone laughs.
KAU MUI: I always remember our Balkan trip in 2017 organized by Peter's wife. Dubrovnik!
EVA: That time in Mostar was so moving.
WIFE: The food in Sarajevo.
MONICA: Split, the seaside resort.
RAYMOND: The Plitvice Lakes.
PETER: The pickpockets in a Zagreb tram...
KAU MUI: Stephanie lost her wallet...She's no longer with us...we need another reunion trip...
WIFE: Back to Europe? Or a cruise.
PETER: Let me tell the story of my good friend Sam...In late 2024, he booked a 100-day round-the-world cruise with his wife.
EVA: A hundred days! How wonderful!
PETER: We thought that the trip was primarily meant for his wife who had a health issue.
Pausing.
PETER: He kept friends posted on Facebook of his whereabouts for about 90 days...then I didn't see and can't react to his posts anymore.
Everyone listens intensely.
PETER (Cont'd): Later, I learned that he had died peacefully in his sleep on the ship before it reached Yokohama, the ship's home port.
KAU MUI: How tragic...
PETER: Was it? I believe he enjoyed his life to the full. He didn't die in a hospital, waiting for something. He died towards the end of his great adventure.
The table is silent.
Act 3
INT. BEDROOM - 23:45
Peter uploads an image to a draft on his laptop. It shows a colourful numbered roulette-style wheel on the clock face with hands pointing at 10:05.
PETER (V.O.): My wife didn't wake at 10:05 because she had to. She woke because she chose to. That's the difference between obligation and devotion.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Waking at 10:05 isn't a mistake It's a reminder to my wife that the clock serves her- not the other way around.
Reflecting.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): At the subatomic level, there's no time. There's only energy, intention and action. Waking at 10:05 is quantum alignment.
The END
