  3. INT. SLEEPING ROOM - NIGHT


  4. Peter goes to bed.


  5. PETER (V.O.): It's after midnight. The Chinese New Year has seamlessly come. Would it sweeten my dream?


  6. Peter sleeps.


  7. INT. SLEEPING ROOM - MORNING


  8. In bed, KAJI steps on Peter's legs, waking him up to check the time.


  9. PETER (V.O.): Oh, it's breakfast time. The maid is on leave. Let me go to the mall and buy breakfast for us.


  10. EXT. BLOCK LOBBY - LATER


  11. Seeing a red packet with the word " 福" (Fortune) on top of a pot of citrus fruit, Peter captures a photo of it.


  12. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The set of chambers I'm in is called "Fortune" too.


  13. Act 2


  14. INT. MALL - LATER


  15. Most shops are closed but fast food restaurants are open.


  16. PETER (V.O.): On Chinese New Year Days from 1970-1973, I worked as a part-time waiter. I thought it was fortunate that I could work to earn a few dollars more.


  17. INT. DINING ROOM - LATER


  18. Sharing breakfast with Kaji, Peter reads Quora notifications.


  19. PETER (V.O.): Wow! Fortune knocks again! A person from afar called "Lovely Caroline" addresses me as "Handsome" and notes my nice and intriguing profile...


  20. Smiling.


  21. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): She thinks we should get to know more about each other and see what future holds on for us...


  22. INT. STUDY - LATER


  23. Relaxing on a sofa, Peter is in thoughts.


  24. PETER (V.O.): While I was studying law at HKU from 1981-1985, I studied on Chinese New Year Days. I thought it was fortunate that I could study Law at HKU.


  25. Checking other phone messages, Peter exchanges a few greetings, inserting an image with the word "福" (Fortune) on it.


  26. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): It's good to get actively engaged during festive times.


  27. Watching TV.


  28. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): To non-Chinese, today is just another day or a holiday.


  29. Noting an incoming email on his laptop screen, Peter reads it.


  30. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Oh, it's my Australian friend's Happy New Year Greeting cum his family story. He has been doing that for over 20 years. Let me reciprocate with mine.


  31. Peter types and types.


  32. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): But this 2021 Chinese New Year Day is very different. We won't pay visits to the elders and close relatives.


  33. Pausing.


  34. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Today's highlight could be our elder daughter's video call from Japan at 4:00pm.


  35. Pausing.

  36. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Meanwhile, let me mine the songs I wrote for the Chinese New Year.


  37. Peter finds his YouTube account and some video clips appear on screen.


  38. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Oh, I've forgotten I got a song on Chinese New Year Eve banquet. It's called:盤滿砵滿.


  39. Pausing.


  40. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): But we didn't have that yesterday night.


  41. Peter scrolls down his video list.


  42. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I've also forgotten my number: Anything Is Treasure. It was just written and published in 2017.


  43. Reflecting.


  44. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Since I began my private practice in Sept 2017, I've written very few songs.


  45. Peter watches his music-video.


  46. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Yes, those were the days.


  47. Act 3


  48. INT. SITTING ROOM - AFTERNOON


  49. The FAMILY are having a video call.


  50. ELDER DAUGHTER (from laptop):...Let me now introduce my boyfriend...

  51. The family looks anxious. We hear and see the elder daughter and her BOYFRIEND conversing in Japanese.


  52. PETER (V.O.): It's their common goal to enhance their Japanese proficiency that brings them together.


  53. As Peter and his WIFE speak Cantonese to them, the elder daughter does the Japanese interpretation. Then, Peter's ELDER SON, YOUNGER SON and YOUNGER DAUGHTER all speak Japanese to the couple.


  54. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): It's the first time I hear so much Japanese in my family gathering!


  55. Pausing.


  56. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): It's also now for the young for greet me and my wife on Chinese New Year Day.


  57. INT. DINING ROOM - NIGHT


  58. The family is having dinner.


  59. INT. SLEEPING ROOM - NIGHT


  60. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): For decades, I've never had a dinner at home on Chinese New Year Day.


  61. INT. SLEEPING ROOM - NIGHT


  62. Peter goes to bed.


  63. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): What a difference a day makes. When fortune knocks, open the door quick.
