  1. FADE IN

  2. Act 1

  3. INT. BATHROOM - 08:30

  4. Clean, functional, modern. A white-haired PETER is using the toilet, scrolling Facebook posts on his smartphone. A headline catches his eye: A 73-year old man weds a 33-year old woman.

  5. PETER (V.O.): I'm interested to see the comments.

  6. He taps comments and reads them: a sea of vulgarity.

  7. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Cantonese speakers are often described as outspoken and direct in their conversations...what is "Vietnam 17"?

  8. He researches.

  9. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The netizens are reducing this grand "age-gap love story" to the raw mechanics of a transactional international match-making trade.

  10. Reading.

  11. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): If a 73-year-old man can secure a 33-year old bride in local high society, a 40-year canyon, then by that transactional ratio, an elderly man going to Vietnam for an arranged match would be coming home with a 17-year-old girl.

  12. As he is about to lose interest in the comments, Peter sees a poetic couplet: 天若有情夫不老,海棠無悔伴梨花。(If heaven has feelings, a husband will never grow old, the begonias accompany the pear blossoms without regret).

  13. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Hmm...I'm interested to mine its origin.

  14. Act 2

  15. INT. BEDROOM - CONTINUOUS

  16. Peter sits up in bed, chasing answers on the small screen of his phone. His WIFE lies beside him, deep in sleep.

  17. PETER (V.O.): There is a famous Chinese idiom used to describe a marriage between a very old man and a very young woman: 一樹梨花壓海棠 (A tree of pear blossoms pushing down the begonias) .

  18. Reading.

  19. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): In Chinese culture, white pear blossoms symbolize the white hair of an old man, while red begonias symbolize the youthful, blushing complexion of a young woman.

  20. Reading.

  21. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The original couplet is: 天若有情天亦老, 月如無恨月長圓。(If heaven had feelings, heaven too would grow old. If the moon had no regrets, it would remain forever full.)

  22. The words seem to hum on the screen.

  23. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The romantic derivative is: 天若有情夫不老,海棠無悔伴梨花。(If heaven has feelings, a husband will never grow old, the begonias accompany the pear blossoms without regret.)

  24. FLASHBACK

  25. EXT. HOKKAIDO TOLL ROAD - 18:00 (17 SEPT, 2026)

  26. A grey Toyota Prius e-four glides through it, cutting through the sweeping landscapes. Peter is behind the wheel. Beside him, his wife navigates.

  27. WIFE: In 200 meters, keep left at the fork.

  28. PETER: Yes...complete darkness will soon arrive...you'll drive at the next service area.

  29. WIFE: Sure. I know your eyesight is getting worse.

  30. EXT. DAISETSUZAN NATIONAL PARK - 11:30 (18 SEPT, 2026)

  31. A breathtaking wilderness of Mount Daisetsu. Peter's wife walks briskly ahead the alphine trails. Peter walks several paces behind her. He is deliberately slow.

  32. PETER (V.O.): I'm acutely aware that at my age, a single misstep or a fall would completely ruin our travel. My wife is nearly 10 years younger than me.

  33. Pausing.

  34. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): When I remarried at 39, I was a mature man, entering my middle years. Back then, the age-gap was manageable, even a bit thrilling.

  35. The gap between them slowly widens.

  36. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Nature and time bear no malice: they're simply indifferent. Human choices carve out their own regrets.

  37. Peter looks up at the cold, grey mountain sky.

  38. RETURN TO PRESENT

  39. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I know the exact life they will lead.

  40. Pausing.

  41. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Right now, they're floating on the romantic illusion of "the begonia accompanying the pear blossom without regret".

  42. Wondering.

  43.  PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Would the presence of a woman 40 years younger extend the longevity of the elderly man, granting him a fountain of youth?

  44. Wondering.

  45. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Will nature somehow compensate the canyon of time?

  46. Pausing.

  47. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Or will the unrelenting laws of biological decay eventually assert themselves, turning their grand romance into another cold contract of relationship?

  48. Peter takes a look of the post's featured photo, depicting a black-haired couple.

  49. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): My wife used to urge me dye my hair black, desperately trying to mask the visible years between us.

  50. Pausing.

  51. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Years ago, she realises that even with my faked hair colour, I've stopped looking young.

  52. Act 3

  53. INT. BEDROOM -22:00

  54. Peter uploads a photo to a draft on his laptop. It shows the moon resenting the clouds and still lighting the South China Sea.

  55.  PETER (V.O.): An age gap is a beautiful bridge in the summer of youth, but a treacherous canyon in the winter of old age. When the moon resents, it's because no amount of light from a younger star can rewrite the physical architecture of time.

  56. Thinking.

  57. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Let the moon wane and the body slow. True, the immortal love doesn't belong to the physical world of biological clocks. It lives in the quiet, protected corner of the mind where it's forever summer.

  58. Reflecting.

  59.

  60. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): We don't need nature to grant us a fountain of youth. We only need one sacred memory, fiercely guarded, to prove that time can be made to stand perfectly still.
