Sitting by a window table, PETER and DORA are dining. An elegantly-dressed handsome PERFORMER (30+) carrying a placard in Japanese characters with a photo of him comes close to them. Speaks.
PERFORMER
(in Japanese)
I'm a resident performer here. My show
at the Theater will begin at 9:00 pm. Do
come and join me...
Peter & Dora listen politely, without uttering a word. The Performer passes them Japanese leaflets before moving on. Peter observes the Performer's engagement with other Customers, particularly Young Ladies.
PETER
(Sighing to Dora)
How sad... a performer has to market
himself like that. Why don't we go and
check it out. I think it's free.
INT - HOTEL THEATER - NIGHT
Dotted with kids and elderly. Peter and Dora at back row. Two presenters chit-chatting with the small audience in Japanese.
Music begins. The Performer in a shiny outfit energetically appears on stage. Hands clapping.
PETER
(V.O.)
It's him! But for our close encounter
minutes ago, I'd have mistaken him as
another person... I don't think he expects
our presence though.
As he sings and the audience clap on beat, the performer shares eye contacts with each and every member of the audience. His eyes reveal that none of the Young Ladies are there. When finally seeing Peter and Dora, the Performer's eyes beam!
