China is still the world's manufacturing base for consumer goods. The state of trademark counterfeiting or dilution in mainland China and its e-commerce market is still an issue of concern for businesses here and there. Quality of products and price aside, customer experience may become a key brand differentiator.
To define a business vision and its position in the market, brand building is an on-going process. A successful business has to establish a strong and user-friendly connection with its customers. The challenge upon an entrepreneur is how to get, keep and grow customers, particularly in the Chinese -speaking e-commerce market.
Connectivity in the on-line world is currency. A direct point of connection between the brand's website and its customers is a strategic asset. A gTLD Registry ".商标", accredited by the International Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) , operating like a trademark registry connects the disconnects in the online world.
Registering a business' domain name (which needs not be in Chinese) with ".商标" gTLD Registry is the simple solution to the perennial problem. Subscribing to its vision, I have been a co-chair of ".商标"'s Committee on Policy and Compliance. I believe the registration is the smart way for entrepreneurs anywhere to scale up their online businesses in China!
