The IP Guitar Man

FADE IN:

INT. CONFERENCE HALL - DAY

PETER in suit is among the audience. Someone speaks in the podium. Peter gets a message and we see him typing "I'll come out to find you."

Peter walks to a booth with WIPO signs. He meets and shakes hands warmly with GENTLEMAN#1.

PETER

Hi!

GENTLEMAN#1

The only opportunity is tonight.

PETER

I'll arrange a dinner right away.

And the time?

GENTLEMAN#1

Make it 6:30pm.

An elegantly dressed LADY approaches the booth and Peter shakes hands warmly with her. GENTLEMEN#2 and #3 approach the lady. We hear: "Can we invite you to..."

Peter walks away, checks his phone and calls.

PETER

I wish to make a dinner reservation...

INT. CONFERENCE HALL - DAY

GENTLEMAN#4 finishes his speech. Presentation of souvenir. Photo session. GENTLEMAN#5 at the podium earnestly waves to Peter to join him.

PETER (V.O.)

How can I make a difference

during dinner?

He leaves the venue in thoughts.

EXT. SHOP FRONT - DAY

Peter enters Tom Lee - a musical instrument store. He walks up to the guitar section and picks up a champagne colour acoustic guitar. Sitting on a stool, he plays it and we hear nice guitar figuring sounds.

PETER (V.O.)

I saw it being displayed days

ago and am happy to find that

it's still here.

SALESMEN#1 and #2 observe from a distance.

PETER

Is this one the only one

available?

SALESMAN#1

Yes.

PETER

I take it.

Peter pays at a counter.

EXT. PROMENADE - DAY

Peter plays the guitar. We can't hear much. Some passersby are watching.

INT. RESTAURANT - NIGHT

Inside a room, Peter plays the guitar for a while. He then puts it on a chair and takes a photo.

Peter exits the room. He walks to the main entrance and waits. A PARTY including Gentleman#1 and the lady appear from a distance.

He approaches them, shakes hands with the party and talks to the lady.

PETER

Thank you very much for

coming...

LADY

We've declined quite a

number of invitations.

The party nod.

FLASHBACK (DAYS AGO)

INT. STUDY - NIGHT

The wall clock registers 2.00am. Peter sends an email.

PETER

I'm so glad that I've found

her email address and can

send her a message before

flying to Hong Kong.

RETURN TO PRESENT

Food on the table. No one eat as Peter and the lady talk.

As Peter and the lady eat, all eat.

Phone alert. The lady checks.

LADY

We've to leave in 30 minutes

for another appointment.

Finishing what is on his plate, Peter grabs his guitar.

PETER

I've to sing you all a song before

parting. It's my original composition

in Cantonese, Putonghua and

English. I'd only sing in Putonghua

and English.

Music to our ears. The party observes Peter with amazement. A round of applause as the song ends.

LADY

I take your love song as a

dedication to our institution...

PETER

(Smiling widely)

I just want you all to remember

me as the IP guitar man!

The Party smile. Peter walks them out happily.
