FADE IN:
INT. SLEEPING ROOM - EARLY MORNING
Peter wakes up.
PETER (V.O.)
Today is May 4th, a Sat.
I'm quite free today, but
I wake up as if I've to
go to work today as
well.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
One significance of May
4th to me is that my red
sports car has been with
me for 30 years. I chose
May 4th, 1989 as the car's
delivery date, assuming
myself as an intellectual
wanting to do good for
China.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
What motivated me to
buy a sports car was my
accelerated promotion
to the rank of Senior
Crown Counsel months
ago. I loved the car's
aesthetic design and its
turbo-charged engine.
I drove in the fast lane
then.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Days later, I travelled to
UK, France, Germany and
even Hungary to learn from
the West about capitalist
and socialist copyright
regimes. Soon after my
return to Hong Kong, it
was June 4th.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
I believe the common
goal of political activities,
whether in 1919 or 1989,
was to have a strong
China in the civil and
political, economic,
social and cultural context.
INT. STUDY - MORNING
Peter checks the Apps of his iPhone 6.
PETER (V.O.
Having experimented in
re-setting my iPhone 8+
days ago, I couldn't wait
to reset this iPhone 6
yesterday. Its system
storage was very high.
I haven't taken any timely
action to resolve the
software issue. It's
normal now.
PETER then picks up an iPad Mini 3, checks a few icons, and taps "Reset".
PETER (V.O.)
I bought this one in Oct,
2014. Its system storage
used over 50 GB, leaving
little room for application.
Having tried to "Reset"
I know how to manage
the risk and am ready
to take corrective action.
Peter then turns to his desk top computer. After clicking a few icons, he sees a notification: "It may take hours to complete the "Reset".
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
I haven't dealt with the
systemic issue since I
bought it two days after
my retirement in 2014.
Its system storage used
over 240 GB of the local
hard disk and can't be
right. Through my
omission, the software
problem compounded.
Let me make May 4th
as the day to mark my
new cultural movement!
Peter then returns to deal with his iPad Mini 3.
INT. STUDY - AFTERNOON
We see on the computer screen: "100% completed".
A beat.
Manipulating a 3-D image on his computer screen, Peter looks excited.
PETER (V.O.)
Well, I use my computer
as a word-processing
machine. I didn't know
it has such a viewing capacity.
Technology is developing
fast. While a 3-D image
in the machine looks new,
our life experience has
been 3-D all along.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.)
Apart from the length,
width and height, there's
an inner dimension or
intensity in us. We're at
the centre of our everyday
3-D life experience. This's
something that I've been
reflecting and sharing.
The lingering question
is: How do we know if our
acts or omissions are
right or wrong after all?
INT. STUDY - NIGHT
Peter mines a photo from computer drive.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
I've kept my sports car
for 30 years. One reason
being: my late wife drove
it for a few times. We
took our new-born son
home with it. It's my
self-determination,
having virtually no
impacts on others.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
The car can still turn
heads. Beauty is the
eyes of the beholder.
The car looks fast, but
outsiders wouldn't
know its internal turbo
-charge has already
malfunctioned.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Is 30 years a long time?
The People's Republic
began 30 years after the
May 4th Movement. If
the Movement sowed
the seeds, China would
take over 100 years to
harvest!
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Today, I've completed
reset all my devices that
have to be reset. While
I'd continue to keep my
red sports car as long
as I could, I've today
begun my new culture!
Peter takes a look of his computer and other hand-held devices.
