Forced Perspective Photography

FADE IN:

INT. CLUBHOUSE - DAY

Looking at a newspaper image, Peter reads its subtitles.

PETER (V.O.)

Forced perspective

photography? A technique

to make something to appear

larger than it actually is?

INT. SLEEPING ROOM - DAY

Waking up, Peter checks incoming messages.

PETER (V.O.)

A video clip from mainland

friends about Hong Kong?

Peter taps the clip on his phone screen. We see and hear a man scolding a woman in public: Don't continue to persuade the young to confront... you take all the political credit... I donated money to support the cause, just to find later that I incited students to confront and die...I've been regretting that for 25 years...Don't brainwash the young anymore!

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

That's an old video clip, but

new to me. The man has

changed, but not her.

Peter does his morning routines.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

I studied Epistemology and

l find facts. I studied Ethics

and I have my own value

judgment. I'm no longer

with the Government and

have no party line to toe.

I'm politically independent.

Pausing.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

For the public, it's difficult

for them to distinguish

between fact and fiction.

They confuse their value

judgment with facts. If

they don't trust China,

whatever arrangement

with China can't be good.

Pausing.

PETER (V.O.)

If they get the facts wrong,

they won't suffer, particularly

when their stance is

consistent with the party

line and identity.

Serving the web, Peter finds something.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

There' s an interesting

study. If people are

paid to get the facts right,

they can do it!

INT. STUDY - DAY

Working on his computer, Peter watches BBC. We see Hong Kong's Chief Executive debriefs and hear communications in Cantonese and English, or simultaneous interpretation in English.

PETER (V.O.)

I've been watching BBC

for many years. This's

the first time Hong Kong

can get so much of its

air time!

Q & A sessions. Questions from local media, BBC, CNN and CBS.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

Bill suspension? My

experience in 2000 was

law suspension.

Pausing.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

More time for explanation

and communications?

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

In politics, if one has to explain,

one is defending and losing;

one has to be aggressive to

force the other side to follow

one's agenda.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

Communication only takes

place when the message is

understood. It's very hard

to align political judgment,

unless people, individually

and severally would question

their biases!

Pausing.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

In the old video clip, the man's

change of stance is telling.

But there're many others

like the woman, who would

never change.

Pausing.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

The Bill's problem is quite

like forced perspective

photography.

BBC continues to report: A massive political defeat...what will happen tomorrow...

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

It's US's Happy Father's

Day...

FADE OUT.

The End
