FADE IN.
INT. STUDY - DAY
Working behind the computer and watching a table clock from time to time, PETER types tireless and hits a key.
PETER (V.O.)
Okay, my draft is sent.
The secretariat would
make some format changes
for me.
Happily, Peter leaves home.
EXT. ROAD - DAY
Peter walks past a few flyover's supporting pillars and sees some graffiti.
PETER (V.O.)
They've been here for
weeks and the weak
Government hasn't
done anything!
Another graffiti catches Peter's eyes.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Here's graffiti on graffiti.
A pig. The message I
get is stupidity...
Peter takes a photo it.
INT. STUDY - DAY
Working behind his computer, Peter is pondering.
PETER (V.O.)
How come the secretariat
hasn't come back to me?
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd)
Let me call the secretariat
as I don't want to miss
the deadline to deliver
my decision.
Peter uses his phone to make a call.
A beat.
PETER
(To phone)
...You haven't got my
mail? Okay, I'll send it
over again.
Touching the red telephone icon, Peter wonders.
PETER (V.O.)
But I didn't receive any
non-delivery message.
Let me check my Sent
mail again...
Checking his computer screen, Peter looks astonished.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Oh my God! I sent it to
myself! I was in haste
then. It's a problem of
my own creation,
Peter clicks here and there, types something and hits a key.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
My discomfort became
my warning bell. I 'm
not late yet. I'm still in
time. Good!
INT. CLUBHOUSE - DAY
Phone in hand, Peter checks an incoming message.
PETER (V.O.)
They're going to use the
Emergency Regulations
Ordinance to pass the
Anti-mask law tomorrow?
That's something that
should be done in haste.
EXT. SWIMMING POOL - DAY
Peter is swimming in a preoccupied fashion.
PETER (V.O.)
I recall someone asked
me earlier if the riots
will end by November.
Judging from the latest
development, they will.
Leaving the pool, Peter reaches for his phone and scrolls up the screen.
PETER (V.O.)
Here it is!
We see the question:
Q. Do you think the riots will end around November?
PETER (V.O.)
As the rioters are of the
irrational and stupid
type, it's difficult for me
to understand and
predict what they'd
do?
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.)
In their all-out National
Day riots from their
bases, there're just
a few hundred rioters
in each district.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Once the anti-mask law
is out, - which can be
tomorrow - not many of them can continue to
hide their identities in
committing serious
crimes.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
The certainty of being
caught for committing
crimes is the greatest
deterrent. The end
game can be anytime
soon.
Peter then types his reply, and we gradually see typefaces of letters in the screen as below.
A. After the anti-climax of the all-out National Day riots and with the imminent introduction of the anti-mask law anytime soon (the deterrent means to enhance certainty of being caught by the Police), only the stupidest among the stupidest would press on as plain triads and terrorists in October. But they will surely be caught either at the crime scenes right away or at home later to face justice.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
The stupid people can be
a strong and dangerous
force as they're beyond
reason. As reason would
not help, the fear strategy
is the only alternative.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Like the best of the best,
there 're the stupidest of
the stupidest. Riots may
not end tomorrow, but it
will die down as rioters'll
be caught and punished.
EXT. ROAD - NIGHT
Parking his car, Peter hears some isolated screams and shouts.
PETER (V.O.)
Oh, it's 10:00 p.m. already.
They're household lunatics.
There hasn't been any
echo. They've to first
liberate themselves from
such a self-induced slogan
slavery.
INT. STUDY - NIGHT
Peter hears TV news.
ANCHOR
(On screen)
There're anti-government
protests against unemployment
and corruption in Baghdad.
When the protests turned
violent, the Police fired
and 19 were killed.
Peter looks out of the window.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
What's wrong with Hong
Kong? Many of the problems
are of our own creation.
FADE OUT.
THE END
