FADE IN.
INT. TOM LEE MUSIC STORE - DAY
Open-planned guitars section. PETER looks around casually. He passes by a special collection room. Then something colourful catches his eyes.
PETER (V.O.)
What's that?
Peter gets inside, check it out and picks up a guitar with a colourful top.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
It's a Martin acoustic.
What a surprise!
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Oh, it's "Woodstock".
FLASHBACK
INT. VILLAGE STRUCTURE - DAY (1969)
Peter stays close to a transistor radio, listening to pop music and the DJ's passing remarks.
PETER (V.O.)
From time to time,
the DJ would mention
Woodstock. What's
that?
INT. VILLAGE STRUCTURE - DAY (1970)
We hear the radio broadcasting pop music: "By the time we got to Woodstock, we're half a million strong...
PETER (V.O.)
Oh, someone has
even written a song
about Woodstock. I
wish I was there...
INT. OFFICE - DAY (2012)
Peter's having a meeting with COLLEAGUES.
PETER
One wild option to
give publicity to the
the newly-reclaimed
water-front open space
in Central is to hold a
Woodstock-like
music festival...to
promote creativity...
His colleagues don't seem to get it.
INT. STUDY - DAY (2019)
Peter's watching YouTube video clips.
PETER (V.O.)
It's only now that
the video clips of
Woodstock are readily
shared, and I can
feel what it was all
about...
Images of a sea of people appear on screen.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Well, a lot of festival
goers. Some estimates
400,000 people. The
song lyrics say half
a million.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Judging from the images
it seems there're more
people in Woodstock than
the number of protesters
in Hong Kong.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
The protest organiser
claimed nearly two
million. The media
made it two million
without fact-check.
The Police figure was...
Checking his phone.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
...338,000. Yes, the
figure seems factual
and not fictional now.
END FLASHBACK
A STAFF (20s) passes by.
PETER
Can I try it?
STAFF
Yes, of course.
Peter does a few fingerpickings.
PETER (V.O.)
Sounds good too.
PETER
I buy it.
Back at the counter, the staff checks the stock
STAFF
I'll order a brand
new one for you.
Just let me have
your name and
phone no and I'll
call you.
Peter nods.
INT. STUDY - DAY
Working behind the computer, Peter pauses.
PETER (V.O.)
The feeling of anticipating
the Woodstock
Anniversary edition
guitar is great. I've
to leave it my children
to get the centenary one
if they want to.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.)
Anyway, it's great gift
to myself after 50
years. I'll definitely
play it while giving
IP lectures in Hong
Kong as I've a
brand story to tell.
EXT. RESTAURANT - DAY
Peter eats and thinks at the same time.
PETER (V.O.)
It has been a couple
of days already. The
staff hasn't called me.
Let me check it out.
After engaging in a phone conversation for a while, Peter ends it.
PETER (V.O.)
Ha! He has forgotten
to ring me. But the
guitar has arrived.
I wasn't impulse
buying. I'm serious!
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.)
I've been a pop music
fan since the 1960s. And I'm still crazy after more
than 50 years!
MONTAGE OF PETER GETTING HIS WOODSTOCK GUITAR.
A. Music store. Peter gets his Martin Woodstock 50th Anniversary edition with the years 1969 - 2019 printed on top.
B. Home. Having unpacked it, Peter begins to play the guitar; and it looks he is very pleased with the sounds.
C. STUDY. Seeing images, Peter notices the guitar top design is from the 1969 Woodstock promotional material.
END MONTAGE
INT. STUDY - NIGHT
Peter takes a look of the guitar top again. We see: 3 DAYS of PEACE...MUSIC & LOVE.
PETER (V.O.)
Just 3 days of peace,
music and love can
make history... Violence,
brawls and hate make
black darker.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
The spiritual beauty of
this guitar is reflected
on its top design. Just
like the spiritual beauty
of people is reflected in
their faces...Anyway,
I'm sure this guitar will
empower me to create
soulful tunes!
FADE OUT. The End
