Little Things

Peter Kam Fai Cheung SBS

FADE IN.

EXT. ROAD - DAY

As he is about to step inside a bank, PETER checks his hand bag.

PETER (V.O.)

Where's

my wallet?

He checks and checks.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

It was with me a

moment ago when I

was still inside the

car. I must have left

it on the passenger

seat.

Peter rushes and arrives at a car repairer.

INT. CAR REPAIRER - DAY

Finding a car that is being worked near the driver side by a TECHNICIAN (30s), Peter sees nothing on the passenger seat.

PETER

I've left my wallet in

the car.

Noting, the technician picks up a wallet near the driver seat.

TECHNICIAN

Is this one?

PETER

(Nodding and smiling)

Oh yes! Thank you!

FLASHBACK

INT. CAR LICENCE RENEWAL COUNTER - DAY

Grabbing the papers, Peter leaves the counter. Then he hears a female's voice.

VOICE (O.S.)

Sir, you've left your

wallet on the counter!

Seeing his wallet, Peter nods and returns to get it back.

PETER (V.O.)

It was just weeks ago

that I lost my wallet...

END FLASHBACK

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

I've to remind myself

again about the safe-

keeping of my wallet.

It's an important little

thing.

Pausing.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

There're other little

things that I've to bear

in mind too.

FLASHBACK

EXT. AIRPORT BUS STOP - DAY

Together with their baggage,, PASSENGERS and Peter alight from a double-decker. As the bus begins to pull off, Peter sees a MAN (30s) and a WOMAN (30s) determining to block the bus by waving a black hand-carrying bag within the driver's sight.

WOMAN

(Shouting at the driver)

This bag isn't mine.

Mine is still inside

the bus!

The driver stops the bus on the side to let them return the bag on the bus rack and get back their own.

PETER (V.O.)

What a mess it would

be if they discover this

untimely. The owner

of the bag must be

sitting on the upper

deck, not knowing that

his bag was taken

away by somebody

else for a while...

END FLASHBACK

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

I used to sit on the

upper deck and now

I think I need to keep

an eye on my baggage

because there're other

mindless persons.

Pausing.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

Another little thing is

about the need to hold

tight while riding on

escalators.

FLASHBACK

Smart phone in hand, Peter stands leisurely on the right side of a stack of escalators going down.

We hear repeated announcements: Hold tight, don't focus on your phone.

Then, Peter sees people going up suddenly moving a bit looking annoyed and becoming stationary.

PETER (V.O.)

Their stack of escalators

abruptly stop for no

particular reason.

Peter begins to hold tight.

END FLASHBACK

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

Yes, there's a need to

heed the warning. It's

a little thing that is easy

to do.

Pausing.

PETER (V.O.)

Although I'm having

screen time even on

the move, I'd stop

before crossing any

road junctions. This

has already become

my conditional

reflex.

EXT. ROAD - NIGHT

Peter's SON is driving, Peter and his WIFE are passengers.

WIFE

Oh, our daughter has

left her Hall room key

at home!

PETER

She's boarding. And

no courier service can

be faster than her to

arrive in UK. She has

to learn from her

setback.

PETER (V.O.)

Finding my keys has

been my problem and

so I place my keys

near the door all

the time.

Pausing.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

Setbacks are learning

experience and life

lessons.
