FADE IN.
INT. SLEEPING ROOM - DAY
Phone in hand, PETER sees a festive eGreeting card.
PETER (V.O.)
Oh, today is the lantern
festival - the first full moon
of the New Year.
FLASHBACK
INT. STUDY - DAY (2018)
Guitar in hand, Peter is recording a song.
PETER (V.O.)
I wrote my Lantern
Festival song with
emotions. I've a
Cantonese version
as well as a Mandarin
version. I like it a
lot, although it's in
a minor key.
END FLASHBACK
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
The mood of the song
now seems relevant.
Life has its ups and
down. When we're
down, touch our soul
and feel the beauty.
We see Peter tapping his phone screen and sharing a video clip on social media.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
My younger son has
to fly black to Sydney
early for fear there
might be a re-entry
problem.
Tapping the WeChat icon, Peter sees a video clip depicting an aircraft and taps it.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Oh, the plane flies from
Melbourne to Guangzhou
with a full-load of supplies on all the seats, but no
passengers.
Reading the subtitles.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
They are donations by
Chinese there. They
care about those in need.
EXT. ROAD - DAY
Passing through Kai Tak Cruise Terminal in a car driven by their SON, both Peter and his WIFE take photos.
PETER (V.O.)
That cruise ship is being
quarantined.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
The last time we had
a cruise was when our
son was 3 and we found
him suffering from seasick.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Now, he can drive and
is a student in medicine.
INT. RESTAURANT - DAY
Peter, his wife and son are having lunch.
WIFE
(To son)
When you go back, check the hospital
parking facilities first.
Then you decide
whether to use public
transport or to buy
a car.
PETER
We facilitate you on
anything so that you
can focus on your
studies. But car free
can be carefree.
INT. SUPERMARKET - DAY
Accompanying his wife and their son, Peter sees a few rice packets on stacks.
PETER
They're from Akita.
We passed through
the fields there last
December...HK$250
for 2 kilos.
His wife shakes her head sideways.
WIFE
We've supplies good
for several weeks.
Peter nods.
PETER (V.O.)
I can survive on chicken
pies and vegetables...
But I prefer buying it
in Hong Kong than to
bring it back from
Japan.
INT. DINING ROOM - NIGHT
Peter, his wife and two SONS are having desserts.
WIFE
Today is the 15th day
of the Chinese New
Year. We should have
some dumplings in
sweet soup.
Peter sees some letters on the bow's rim.
PETER (V.O.)
Life is like the rice
dumplings or chocolates.
We should enjoy it
piece for piece and
let it slowly melt on
our tongue.
Tasting the soup.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
The soup is flowery-
scented sweet. While
what we have experienced
today is pretty ordinary,
I treat it as a day's gift
of love to my family.
Looking his family members present, Peter looks contented.
FADE OUT.
