INT. SLEEPING ROOM - MORNING
Waking up, PETER checks the time. It's 8:40am.
PETER (V.O): I slept only half the time yesterday,
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): After hearing the news the night before yesterday that swimming pools would be closed again from today, I became restless. It's happened before.
FLASHBACK
INT. SLEEPING ROOM - THE NIGHT BEFORE YESTERDAY
Lying in bed, Peter rolls from one side to the other.
PETER (V.O.): The pandemic restriction is going to frustrate my daily routine. There's no evidence that swimming pools are the sources of COVID-19 infections.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O,) (Cont'd): Tomorrow is the last day I can go swimming for a while. What other things should I do timely?
Act 2
INT. SLEEPING ROOM - STUDY - KITCHEN - CONTINOUS
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I've an invoice unsettled. I'd better prepare a cheque and get it done tomorrow.
Getting out of bed, Peter goes to the study to prepare the cheque.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I've to collect a brief in chambers. And I want to participate in a lunch-time webinar tomorrow.
After signing the cheque, Peter sits on a sofa thinking.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Would the latest restrictions delay the handing down of decisions concerning my clients?
Getting inside the kitchen, Peter get's a bottle milk from the fridge.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): It was good that I had three cars tested for their roadworthiness. But I'll have to make appointments to renew their licences. Should I fill up the tanks meanwhile?
Peter drinks some milk.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Ok, I'll go swimming in the late afternoon tomorrow.
Peter returns to the sleeping room.
Beat.
Peter wakes up at 6.20 am.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I don't have to go to court this morning...
In bed, Peter rolls from side to side.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I feel like as if I've just one more day to live. What a rehearsal!
MONTAGE OF PETER'S ACTIVITIES YESTERDAY
A. In the morning, Peter drives his wife to the office in a Mercedes.
B. Having changed to a SMART car, Peter drives it to Esso to fill up the tank.
C. Driving the Mercedes again, Peter drives it to a Caltex petrol filling station.
D. In the afternoon, Peter is being received at a counter of the Hong Kong Bar Association.
E. In his chambers, Peter collects some documents.
END MONTAGE
EXT. STREET - LATE AFTERNOON
Peter walks towards an estate.
PETER (V.O.): After changing clothes at home, I'll go swimming as planned.
Sensing his mobile ringing, Peter takes the call.
SOMEONE (from phone): Peter?
PETER (To phone): Yes?
SOMEONE (from phone): ...I want to deliver a hamper to you this evening...
PETER (To phone): Ok, I'll wait for you then.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.): The pandemic restrictions will revive tomorrow. Today is the date when everybody tries to get things done.
INT. PUBLIC SWIMMING POOL - EVENING
Entrance. Peter asks a STAFF.
PETER: Will the swimming pool open tomorrow?
STAFF: No. Wait for at least a fortnight.
PETER (V.O.): I'd be surprised if it reopens in a fortnight.
Pool. Peter rests near the pool wall.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Although I'm pretty tired, I still want to do a few butterfly strokes in this session.
Peter swims 50 meters of butterfly style before leaving the pool.
RETURN TO PRESENT
Act 3
INT. DINING ROOM - LATER
Peter is having breakfast with KAJI, the family pet.
PETER (V.O.): While work from home allows my wife to sleep a little longer, I can't defer our breakfast.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Today is ordinarily old, and yet new through the revival of enhanced pandemic restrictions. Or, today is new social-domestically in the same old pandemic-wave context.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): It's a new-old day.
Peter's SON joins the party by playing the piano.
