Afternoon Delight

  1. FADE IN.

  2. Act 1

  3. INT. STUDY - DAY

  4. Gloomy weather. PETER is in thoughts.

  5. PETER (V.O.): I had better make good use of the morning to finish drafting my pleadings first.

  6. Peter works on his computer, researching with his phone from time to time.

  7. PETER (V.O.): Following the Rules and the Practice Direction, I've included the particulars in the documents.

  8. Peter saves the documents before shutting down the computer.

  9. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Yes, time to recreate myself.

  10. Packing his swimming gear and picking up the car keys, Peter exits.

  11. EXT. GOLDEN COAST BEACH - LATER

  12. Quiet. Peter swims from shore to the outer limit of the swimming area.

  13. PETER (V.O.): I'm glad that I can swim here as usual again. I took my 1st jab 4 days ago.

  14. Act 2

  15. INT. RESTAURANT - LATER

  16. Sitting at a corner, Peter enjoys fried rice, ice coffee and the lake view.

  17. PETER (V.O.): As today isn't very hot, I'll go to the supermarket to buy some ice cream.

  18. INT. SUPERMARKET - LATER

  19. Peter is checking the ice cream varieties.

  20. PETER (V.O.): There aren't any bargain price items here. I recall I still have many ice cream in my home's fridge.

  21. Pausing.

  22. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I just buy and store some more for the hot days to come.

  23. Having grabbed a basket, Peter walks past a sales PROMOTER.

  24. PROMOTER: Ice cream?

  25. PETER: Yes.

  26. PROMOTER: We offer discounted ice-cream buckets. And if you buy them, you can also buy discounted ice-cream cones boxes.

  27. Peter looks excited.

  28. PETER: OK, I buy one ice-cream bucket and one ice-cream cones box.

  29. PROMOTER: Just one each?

  30. PETER: It's just for my personal consumption.

  31. When making his choice, Peter hesitates.

  32. PROMOTER: The flavours are all very nice.

  33. As Peter nods, the Promoter opens a thermal freezer bag.

  34. PETER: You're letting me have the bag?

  35. PROMOTER: Yes, you need some dry ice right?

  36. PETER (V.O.): Her service is so good. To support her, I'll buy more.

  37. PETER: With the insulated bag and dry ice, I can buy all the favours.

  38. Looking delighted, the Promoter opens a second thermal freezer bag.

  39. PROMOTER: You need more than one bag. You pay for the stuff at the cashier first. I'll wait for you there.

  40. Having paid at the cashier, the waiting promoter shows Peter 4 ice lollies inside the second bag.

  41. PROMOTER: I let you try these delight items, free.

  42. PETER (V.O.): That exceeds my expectations! So delightful!

  43. FLASHBACK

  44. INT. CONVENIENCE STORE - DAY (DAYS AGO)

  45. Peter presents a STAFF with one $100 note and one $500 note to top up his Octopus cards.

  46. STAFF: Done.

  47. PETER: Receipts?

  48. The staff passes him one.

  49. PETER: Can I have the other one too?

  50. STAFF: If you need receipts, you've to tell me beforehand! It's so troublesome to retrieve them!

  51. RETURN TO PRESENT

  52. PETER (V.O.): I may not frequent that store again.

  53. Act 3

  54. INT. STUDY - NIGHT

  55. Thinking, Peter taps his phone screen.

  56. PETER (V.O.): I recall there's a song called Afternoon Delight.

  57. Finding the song's video clip, the lyrics and some texts, Peter listens to it, reading the lyrics and texts as the same time.

  58. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The song was released in 1976 - the year when I got my driving licence and owned my Ford Capri.

  59. Listening.

  60. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Oh, the song's lyrics are pretty explicit about what Afternoon Delight is.

  61. Pausing.

  62. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Then, I treated my sports car as my baby. I held her tight and grabbed delight in the clear day light whether in the morning or in the afternoon, or in the cold dark night!

  63. Peter looks delighted.

  64. FADE OUT.

  65. THE END
