Act 1
INT. SITTING ROOM - NIGHT
Peter is watching TV news. We see a video clip of a BLONDE (35) being interviewed.
PETER (V.O.): Ah, she's Putin's elder daughter. She's pretty. What a rare publicity.
Peter surfs the web.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): She has substance as well. She studied medicine and had a PhD degree.
Peter continues to watch TV news.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Putin said every necessary steps have been taken to ensure the safety and effectiveness of Russia's COVID-19 vaccine, named as SPUTNIK V.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): He added that one of her daughters had already had a shot of SPUTNIK V.
We hear from TV that: After the shot, she had a little fever for a while, and that was it.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): She's a good cast. What a powerful way to put ideas into the world.
Act 2
INT. STUDY - DAY
PETER is watching TV news. We hear: Sumner Redstone has passed away
PETER (V.O.): Who's he?
We see an old gentleman speaking on TV: I coined the phrase: Content is King.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Hmm, it's him.
Watching.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Trained as a lawyer, he became a media magnet.
After surfing the web, Peter watches a video clip.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): He pioneered the teaching of the Law of Entertainment in the 1980s.
Watching.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): He chose to study law because of reason and justice.
Watching.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): He taught law part-time too.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): For those learning the law, there're always good stories to tell. Me too.
Reflecting.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I began to use the phrase "Content is King" after I heard of it.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): From the late 1980s, I was charged with the responsibility to help reform the law on copyright in Hong Kong.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): One law reform issue was that, apart from protecting the interest of content providers eg those who write literary and dramatic works, should the law also protect performers eg movie actors.
FLASHBACK
INT. CONFERENCE ROOM - NIGHT (1989)
Peter (35) is discussing with a GENTLEMAN (40s).
PETER: A law-reform working group may introduce some protection of performers in Hong Kong. What do you think?
GENTLEMAN: No, they don't deserve any legal protection. They follow the screenplay dialogues as to what to say and they follow the director's instructions as to how to act.
PETER (V.O.): That's a media entrepreneur's perspective between content and cast. If performers have some rights, they won't allow the use of their rights without reasonable remuneration.
END FLASHBACK
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Thereafter, whenever I met up with people in the entertainment sector, including actors, I'd like to ask them whether content or cast is king.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Sumner Redstone was so proud to say that he coined the phrase. That's his legacy, having lived for 97 years.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): So far, I've coined: "Intellectualpropertisation". I also like to talk about the "Intellectual Property Economy", "International Intellectual Property Trading" and "IP-backed Capital Market"
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): If I could live long, I can be more kingly by providing more content.
Act 3
INT. CHA CHAAN TENG - DAY
Enjoying a tea set, Peter notices something.
PETER (V.O.): Oh, it has installed a very powerful air circulator.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Before the pandemic, it wouldn't bother to fix a broken door for months.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): But I've been a regular customer, as the food here is good - content is king.
INT. SITTING ROOM - DAY
Peter is watching TV news.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): New Zealand has 14 more new COVID-19 cases today?
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): When I watched them on TV celebrating unmasked their romantic story of 100 straight days without any new coronavirus cases, I expected New Zealand would have new ones.
Thinking
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Content, rather than cast, is king. But what's next after content? Isn't that the contentment/satisfaction of living?
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I coin a phrase now: Authentic living is king.
Touching his silvery hair, Peter looks contented.
THE END
FADE OUT.
