FADE IN.
Act 1
INT. STUDY - 01:30
Putting files inside his brief case, PETER leaves.
PETER (V.O.): In 8 hours. I'll be prosecuting a case having 5 charges, 8 witnesses and lots of exhibits to produce.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Without figuring out the elements of the crimes and the evidence I want the witnesses to adduce, I don't think I can fall asleep at all.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I hate to attend court on Mondays.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): It'd spoil the previous Saturdays and Sundays.
INT. BEDROOM - 01:45
Having dictated his diary on his phone, Peter sleeps.
Act 2
INT. OFFICE - 08:45
Arriving, Peter sees a pile of files on his desk.
PETER (V.O.): I believe these're the cases I've to offer assistance.
Peter skims through them.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Recently, I've dealt with lots of these Cap 599F cases. The defendants are managers of catering businesses.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): They don't comply with the legal requirements concerning Prevention and Control of Diseases.
INT. COURT ROOM - 09:40
Peter is prosecuting. A young WOMAN and a young MAN appear in person, confirming their earlier guilty pleas.
PETER (V.O.): They're the managers of the same business. The Court called for their Probation Reports and Community Service Order Reports.
In sentencing the woman, we hear: 80 hours of community services.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I believe the man will get the same sentence.
In sentencing the man, we hear: You didn't think you needed any probation service.
MAN: Now, I think probation service is fine with me.
And we hear: You didn't want to do any community service. What's your problem?
MAN: I often have headaches and dizziness.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Would the man get a Probation Order then?
We hear: I'm considering the immediate custodial option. But I'd call for your further Probation Report and Community Service Order Report...
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): That's something a defence lawyer would ask, feeling that the court may pass a custodial sentence.
Then we hear: Meanwhile, you've to be remanded.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Oh, this is probably the last thing the man would expect.
Peter jots down the orders as the man is taken to cell.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): What's next is my main prosecution today.
Immediately, Peter checks the piles of documents before him while his ASSISTANT#1 passes piles of exhibits inside plastic bags and his ASSISTANT#2 inserts a USB into a computer port.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): On and off, I've prepared this case for over 10 days.
A DEFENDANT wearing a dead-man look appears at the dock. As the charges are read, the Defendant pleads guilty to each one of them.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I don't expect that.
After COUNSEL's mitigation, we hear: for charge 1 on criminal damage, 4-week imprisonment; for charge 2 on criminal intimidation, 4-week imprisonment, for charge 3 on theft, 2-week imprisonment; for charge 4 on common assault, 2-month imprisonment and for charge 5 on criminal intimidation, 2-month imprisonment.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I believe they must be concurrent ones.
We hear: The sentences are concurrent ones, suspended for two years.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): What a surprise.
Peter takes a look of the Defendant.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): This is the first time I see a happy man in the dock.
INT. OFFICE - 11:50
Peter is typing a report as ASSISTANT#1 comes up to him.
ASSISTANT#1: We're being summonsed back to Court now!
PETER: What's wrong?
Act 3
INT. COURT ROOM - 12:00
In session. ALL look curious. Then we hear: For the theft sentence, the imprisonment term should be 2 days, not 2 weeks. Then, all rise.
PETER (V.O.): Another surprise!
We hear the Defendant remarking from the dock: Oh, I was so scared...
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): This is the first time I see a very happy defendant in the dock.
EXT. PARK - 13: 50
Walking past, Peter sees dandelion seeds flying in the air.
PETER (V.O.): Do they symbolize good luck?
INT. STUDY - 22:30
Peter is working on his laptop.
PETER (V.O.): Whatever trials one may face, don't let them blow you down; let them lift you up.
FADE OUT.
THE END
