Act 1
INT. LIVING ROOM - 12:45
Sunlight slants through the curtains. PETER, in casual wear, pats his pockets anxiously.
PETER (V.O.): Wallet...keys...phones....
.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I only have four smartphones now. When I returned from my home in NT a fortnight ago, I realized my Xperia was missing.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I didn't search for it right away because of an upcoming trip to Seoul.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I figured that if I had dropped it in a public place, it'd be nearly impossible to find. However, if I had left it in my coupe or at my home in NT, it'd still be there.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I'm also concerned about the progress of the exterior repainting of my house there, as I haven't heard from the contractor in two weeks.
Act 2
EXT./INT. PETER'S NT HOME - 15:30
A modest semi-detached house with fresh paint in milky yellow on G/F, milky cream on 1/F and 2/F. Peter returns.
PETER (V.O.): Done? Without a word?
Peter approaches the red coupe parked by his home, opens the door, checks the seats and the carpet, but finds no phone.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I placed my handbag on the passenger seat, thinking that the Xperia might have slipped out if it was still with me.
Peter looks lost.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Gone! My first experience of losing a phone.
Peter enters the sitting room. Something on the coffee table catches his attention.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Oh, the Xperia is on the coffee table
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): My usefulness? Right where I left it - in my own hands. How forgetful I can be!
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Funny thing. Spend two weeks worrying a phone...only to find what really went missinig was my faith in anyone but me.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Finding the phone isn't a big thing, but it's a crucial personal win that lifts a weight.
Peter goes up to the veranda on 2/F to check the paint job.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): OMG, I can see shoe marks on the paint of the concrete railing...
Peter notices some black dots on the wall.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I must ask the contractor to rectify them.
Peter calls with his iPhone.
PETER (to phone): ...you're visiting Canada right now?
PETER (V.O.): That explains why he hasn't reported on progress or requested further payments.
PETER (to phone) (Cont'd): Enjoy your trip. Let's discuss the rectifications when you return.
Peter snaps photos of the house exterior with his iPhone. He texts family: Repaint done!
PETER (V.O.): I want to revive my family's interest in our holiday home.
Peter sees a response on his phone.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): My elder son, who prepared his law exams here, has reacted.
Peter goes to the bathroom on 1/F to check the cistern and flush the toilet.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The cistern has been replaced, and there' re no more water leaks.
After turning on the gas water heater, Peter opens the hot water tap and checks the water temperature with his hand.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): It's functioning properly.
Then, Peter discovers the sink is clogged.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): But the contractor is in Canada...
Immediately, Peter loosens and detaches the U-trap to clear out the debris caught inside the trap. Then he unscrews a metal drain to ensure a clear pathway for drainage. Finally, he reassembles them.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Who needs a contractor in Canada when I can fix it myself from Hong Kong?
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The paint was fresh, the toilet flushed, the burner lit...and somewhere between loosing that phone and fnding it, I remembered who keeps this house alive.
Act 3
INT. LIVING ROOM - 21:45
Peter adds a photo taken immediately after finding his phone to a draft on his laptop.
PETER (V.O.): Sometimes losing something small helps me find something essential.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): They say pride comes before a fall. But sometimes, pride is what picks me up when others let me fall through.
Reflecting.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): A missing phone makes me curse the world. A fixed sink makes me remember I'm the world.
