FADE IN.
Act 1
INT. BEDROOM - MORNING
As a phone on a bedside table begins to sound the alarm, PETER wakes up.
PETER (V.O.): For all my court appearance mornings, this's the 1st time I need the help of the alarm.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I always wake up well before the alarm time that I set.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Having done good preparation beforehand and had a feel of the circumstances yesterday, I expect my work today should be plain-sailing.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): It's good that I've become relaxed. I need the energy to deliver.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I had a strange dream too. The message is to decelerate.
Act 2
INT. JAPANESE RESTAURANT - DAY
Peter is being served with a fried oyster set.
PETER (V.O.): Yesterday, I had a prawn tempura set here. I found its Kyushu snapper soup superb.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd):As my elder daughter has lived in Kyushu for over a year, I like anything Kyushu.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I've delayed my order for the Hiroshima Oysters set until today. Even if I got poisoned, I think the diarrhea would only happen when my day is done.
Peter takes a photo of his set.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The Hiroshima oysters here are just big as those I had in Hiroshima. Those so-called Hiroshima oysters I had in Tokyo were smaller.
Peter tries the Hiroshima oysters.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): They melt in my mouth, delivering a delicious flavour - on par with those that I had in Hiroshima.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Our elder daughter's visits to Hiroshima and Nagasaki inspired my wife and me. We visited Hiroshima in Jan 2018.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I made my solo visit to Nagasaki in Oct 2018 via Tokyo.
Peter continues to enjoy his meal.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I'll only consume the Kyushu Snapper soup when I've finished everything.
Finishing his meal, Peter looks contented.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Both Hiroshima and Nagasaki had horrific painful history though. It began with the Pearl Harbour attack in 1941.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): In 1945, the Little Man fell on Hiroshima and the Fat Man on Nagasaki.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Apart from killing 200,000 human beings, the bombs fell on humanity.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): If Albert Einstein didn't write a letter to US President Franklin Roosevelt, alerting him the possibility that Germany might be making atomic bombs, there wouldn't be any Manhattan Project.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I don't know if the theoretic physicist really regretted that.
Reflecting.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): As a lawyer, I did a lot of legal policy work and was quite idealistic.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): For the past few years, I've been making up for my court practice.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Having done my job, I've no regret if I lose cases, as they're so insignificant to inhumanity.
Peter leaves.
Act 3
INT. STUDY - EVENING
Peter is checking his phone messages.
PETER (V.O.): I was in court and turned off my phones. My younger son's flight back to Sydney has been cancelled. I've also got an unexpected assignment.
The TV's on, breaking news that Blue Origin has successfully completed its near space mission and the New Shepard has landed.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): My wife managed to buy the only available ticket so that our son won't miss his clinical studies this year.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The ticket is extremely cheap when compared to a ticket for sub-orbital space flight. Nothing spent on children is wasted.
.INT. BEDROOM - NIGHT
PETER (V.O.): It has been 4 days since I took my 2nd jab. I've never taken anything for granted.
Peter goes to bed.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I'm grateful that I can have Hiroshima oysters without the need of going to Japan. Not everyone has the privilege.
Casually, Peter places his phones on a bedside table.
FADE OUT.
